I started it because I was feeling sad and somebody recommended it to me as a good pick-me-up and it really was. It was very sweet and chill. ;v; Natsumi was my favorite, then maybe Hotaru. I liked them all though! I especially liked Renge and Candy Lady. Those scenes with them napping together healed my heart. I liked the scenes with the sisters picking on each other too, it definitely reminded me of my own sister lol. It's definitely in my top 5!! I will eventually, I'm kind of bad about watching sequels of even things I like. >v>' I still haven't watched Natume's Book of Friends season 4 or the 3rd season of Kyou Kara Maou and that's got one of my favorite characters ever in it. Thank you for your interesting questions! Honestly the only way I think anime has influenced me is that I'm kind of desensitized now. Not in the way middle aged people think video games desensitize kids to violence but like, to weirdness. For example, my best friend and I were watching Mob Psycho 100 and we texted each other after we finished the fist episode. She brought up the vegetable heads and the broccoli and tomatoes in the op and was very confused about it. But I just kind of went "yeah okay that's normal" and moved on. (ᗒᗜᗕ)՛̵̖ Similarly, we were watching Jojo together because a new episode aired but we were hanging out and she really wanted to watch it so we did. She was pausing every once in a while to explain things but I kept saying "no it's alright you really don't need to" because every time something happened I was just ready to roll with it, no questions asked. Basically normal weird things aren't weird to me anymore because I've seen weirder. I love that though, so I guess that's not really negative? Besides that, I really don't think anime influences me in any way that I didn't already agree with as I'm a person who needs real convincing and good arguments to change my opinions rather than subliminal messaging or things like that. So if an anime has something big in it that I hate or heavily disagree with then I'll drop it and it doesn't really get a chance to influence me anyways. One reason I'll drop an anime is if I don't like how they treat the woman characters. If it's too fetishy or degrading then I won't put up with it. That's why I dropped Welcome to the NHK. The main character was a creep, but he was clearly meant to be relatable. Like, There's this one scene where he's got a camera and he's creeping around a middle school to try to gross himself out so he forces himself to change.. by taking pictures of middle school girls' underwear. He gets caught and apologies. Then the wind blows and skirts fly and he's taking panty shots of 13-15 year old girls. And it's played off as a joke? That's not funny, that's nasty. But like, no matter how many people tell me to get over it or it's not that big of a deal because "it's just a joke", I'm still not gonna be okay with it. Most of the things I've dropped after the first or second episode is because they were too gross. That's definitely anime's biggest bad point for me. But still, it's not like it's in everything so it's not overwhelming. That and it's also not like the rest of the world doesn't also have this problem. The fetishization of women is definitely something I'd change if I could though. |

I'm not sure which characters I could pick that break the most gender roles? The first characters that come to mind I guess are Ryouta Kawara from Hatoful Boyfriend and Haruhi Fujioka from Ouran though. Ryouta just likes wearing dresses. Which is cool because the game doesn't treat it as a big deal, which is cool because it shouldn't be a big deal. It's just clothing. And, as a dating sim, Ryouta is the Childhood Best Friend™ character you, the girl protagonist, can date. Which is another thing I think is cool because wearing dresses and skirts, or being feminine in general, doesn't inherently make a guy gay. He's just a dude that likes to wear dresses and it's not a big deal and I like that. Also he's a fun and interesting character which is a big plus. (❁´▽`❁) Haruhi is definitely one of my favorite female protagonists!! She has a lot of quotes that I really appreciate and here's my favorite: “Listen, Senpai, I don’t really care whether you guys recognize me as a boy or a girl. In my opinion it’s more important for a person to be recognized for who they are rather than for what sex they are.” That means a lot to me because that's something I agree with. My favorites list is really out of order actually. My #1 favorite is probably Natsume's Book of Friends or Haikyuu. I'm not even sure if it's all added in the order of when I add it either, since I'm pretty sure the most recent one I added was Mushish and that's like, 3rd to last on the list? I do love No.6 though. I love the novels even more so but I'm fine with recommending the anime too, since I watched the anime first and that's what made me want to read the novels in the first place. No.6 is set in a post-apocalyptic world and it's basically about this kid, Shion, who is handed everything on a silver platter. He's very intelligent and therefore an important member of society so him and his mother live in a high class area and are very pampered. But one day a criminal who escaped the facilities of No.6, Nezumi, breaks into Shion's house. Shion impulsively let's him stay and takes care of him for the night. He's gone the next morning but No.6 officials find out and Shion's and his mother's elite status is stripped away and now they live in the trashiest area inside the walls of No.6. 4 years later, Shion gets into terribly big trouble and he's being taken in by the police to a place nobody ever comes back from. So Nezumi returns to return Shion's favor to him by saving his life like Shion had saved his. This all takes place within the first 1 or 2 episodes and the rest is mostly based on Nezumi's and Shion's life outside the city walls. Which is dangerous and hectic and pretty fun to watch. I've mentioned this before but the characters are definitely my favorite part about No.6, as I'm a very character oriented person and I actually don't care much for dystopian revolution plots. There's just so many unique details that set them apart from other characters and they're very well written and I love them. ;-; Now, personally, I don't think the anime suffers much in the difference in the adaptation. Not plot wise anyways. The biggest (and only?) problem I have with it is that the characters are so much more deep in the novels. The part I'm most sad about though is that Shion is so much more snarky. My favorite part is when him and Nezumi are running away from the police, like I mentioned earlier, and while they're running Nez makes some comment like "What, you're not tired already are you?" and Shion just deadpans and responds "Oh, on the contrary, I could do with more exercise. Care for a piggy back ride while we're at it?" and I DIED. ....But he just. Doesn't have any of that in the anime. :') There are so many lines they removed. Nezumi is less of the typical stoic jerk in the novel too. He laughs more, Shion threatens to bite his nose off one time and he actually seems kind of scared, shows more emotion in general, ect. By the way, if you're wanting to watch this I hope you know that it is gay, because it is very gay, and I don't mean fanservice gay. It's actually gay. (ᗒᗜᗕ)՛̵̖ It's like Yuri on Ice in terms of "Yeah they're clearly gay." but doesn't have a shounen ai tag. I'm assuming this is because it's not the main plot point and more of a sub plot. All in all though I would recommend the anime (the ending made me cry), especially if all of this sounds interesting. Also please don't hesitate to ask any more No.6 questions if you have any because I love talking about No.6 but I felt like this was getting a bit too long already. 8') I hope that cleared some things up!! |

It does sound pretty interesting. I don’t think I’m bothered by shounen ai and am actually very interested to confirm how I feel about watching gay romances. I’m not huge into romance as the main focus in general, but it does spice things up a bit in the subplot. You managed to give me the essentials and stir up some curiosity, I don’t really have more questions for now, but we can talk about it more when I get to watching it (don’t know when that will be yet). Incidentally, the reason I wanted to watch No.6 was that in this year’s anime watching challenge there is a part where I need to watch an anime with a number in its name. Do you usually prefer to binge-watch anime or watch it little by little? Also do you have some kind of a “schedule” for watching? |

Well I made my sister watch Angel Beats, which was technically her first. She watched some of Death Note with me but the episodes she did watch were pretty sporadic. Kind of depends on their tastes though, because I also recommended Ghost Stories to a female friend of mine. I hope you like it when you get around to it, it's very dear to me. Yeah I agree actually, most of my favorite romances aren't actually romance centered. That's a relief lol, I tried pretty hard to give as many non-spoilery details as possible. That's kind of odd actually, how many anime are there with numbers in their name?? How do you search for those? I binge. I definitely binge. I watched all of Nabari no Ou in two days in a short period of time, like, I started it at like 5 PM one day and watched 15 episodes all at once and then I finished it the next day (although more intermittently since I had chores that day). The only reasons I watch anime a little bit at a time are: 1) the anime is airing and I don't have any more episodes to watch. 2) It's boring me and I can only force myself to watch one or two episodes. Or, least likely, 3) I'm busy and have to stop myself from binging. I definitely don't have any kind of schedule, it'd stress me out if I did. Then I'd procrastinate watching it and fall behind the deadline or whatever goal I'm trying to reach (which is also why I don't participate in challenges.) |

In retrospect, this makes sense but I was starting to think you misspelled KFC or something. Yes, I'm not in love with the series or anything but I do appreciate Aikawa a lot (ᗒᗜᗕ)՛̵̖ I'd be in the faction that says he's a boy. I'm really proud of Deku and I want to learn more about Todoroki and idk what's happening with dear, sweet Kacchan but I hope he undergoes some good character development from this lol. I think I like it more than first season? Maybe? At least from the beginning of first season probably. As much as I care for Deku, I do not care for shy, anxious, cry baby characters, and the cry baby-ness was a lot more concentrated in the first season. But I really like the intelligent, bold, go-getters which is also who Deku is so he's a a really well written multi-faceted character and he's good!! I really wish every episode was out already so I could binge it. (ᗒᗜᗕ)՛̵̖ Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine: Not sure what I was expecting with this but this wasn't it. It's reeaaally melodramatic and cheesy, but it gives me like one solid laugh like once per episode (mostly because of the teacher) so I plan on keeping up with it. Seikaisuru Kado: Not sure how I feel about it but better than I was expecting?? Kind of hamfisted and repetitive with it's theme and messages, but pretty entertaining so far. I'm mostly hopping it goes for deep characters than anything else, I like the white haired boy's character design a whole lot and I want more info on him. Also for like, how he found earth and his reasoning for wanting to advance earth's technologies and stuff, because surely he's not exerting this much effort just out of kindness? Shingeki no Kyojin Season 2: Also better than I was expecting?? I kind of forgot that I liked snk lol. After so long of hearing everybody saying it was way overrated and edgey shounen trash and also after that recent thing with Armin and spoilers and other unnecessary things, I really grew distant from it. So new season is a good reminder of why I liked it in the first place! Tsuki ga Kirei: Kind of boring but I am holding out on the hope that it gets tragic since it's being worked on by a person who worked on Angel Beats and a person who worked on Orange, and if you know the ending of the one and just the plot of the other I think you'll get where I'm coming from here. |

Other than that, I often go to a person's profile or anime list for inspiration, like most other people. I also try to ask questions where the answer could change over time for people with super long threads in case somebody has asked something similar before (for example: what are you planning to watch next?) Aaand sometimes I just get random ideas from random things so I write it down for later or something. Like, one day I was going through my fav anime amvs for whatever reason and then I asked a few people on here if they watched amvs. But for like, deciding which question goes to who kind of depends on how well I know them? Or what I can assume from their profiles or previous responses? Like, if I have a question about a game I'll probably ask it to someone I think plays games. The people I don't know well or otherwise can't read get the more generic questions I ask everybody and the people I know or enjoy talking to get more personal ones usually. Unless I'm out of ideas or don't have the patience to snoop through older questions, profiles, and list for ideas, then everybody gets generic questions I ask everybody. |
