I actually won't though. Why would I waste all my time changing operating systems for no benefit and potential detriment.

There are many operating systems that I've used, hated, and passed over in favour of my current operating system in the past. Who are these people who are just eventually using it anyway, other than those who don't know what an operating system is and think apple invented apps.

98SE was better in every single conceivable way.

I'd say Windows 7 because of the start menu and run bar, but there's really a lot of unnecessary hate on Windows 8 (rhymes all the times)

I think the only reason it's such a big deal is because Win-8 is a slight downgrade instead of a significant upgrade. If I paid the money to upgrade an already existent computer to Windows 8, I'd be disappointed. However, getting a computer with Windows 8 preloaded isn't much different than Windows 7.

Windows 7, because that's what my computer was installed with.

When it comes to software, my policy is "don't fix it if it ain't broken." I've found that upgrades are terrible at least 50% of the time.

If I ever get a new computer after this one, I'll deal with it then.

Windows 8.1 Update of course.

All the internet hate for the new start menu is bullshit. The thing works magically, can be used by a mouse and keyboard smoothly (I'm not kidding), and if you hate booting first to Metro, you can set it to boot to desktop first. Update sets it depending on whether you computer has a touch screen or not.

And its works just as Windows 7 did.

This is one strong argument if I ever read one

Not everything is bad, the boot and shutdown times are quicker in windows 8. Also since it is a less demanding OS it works better on older systems. Then again, the metro interface doesn't add anything imo (I just install classic shell and ignore it's existence) and I'm also not a fan of the ''microsoft account'' that you need for most apps.

I still prefer windows 7 on my desktop. It's more down to personal preference. Also I really don't agree with the ''It's different and complicated'' attitude of a lot of people. windows 7 also took some getting used to if you switched from XP, and plenty of people switched from mac to windows (and vise versa). As if that isn't a little confusing at first.

For gaming, Windows 7 is better. Many of my friends have compatibility issues with some games with Windows 8.

Windows 8 seems to be entertainment oriented, and the interface, at least for me, is hard to get around. It is not a workstation OS. Windows 7 gets down to the nitty gritty and everything is navigable and not overly simplified. I'd have to say it's the better OS, at least for my purposes.

No point in using every new windows version used 98 then XP skipped Vista currently using Win7, I'll buy the one after Win 8 since usually microsoft have a policy to publish Windows prototypes each 2nd version, When you look at it Vista is the prototype of Windows 7 and probably Win 8 is the prototype of the nex version..

Windows 7 because 8 is a little too complicated. I like a simple desktop. With that said, I have limited experience with W8 but still believe I want it simple, even over convenient if that's how W8 is when fully utilized.

Windows 8.1 for me.

I used to despise 8 back when it first came out and I'd just used it on a friends here and there. Always seemed way to complicated and confusing compared to 7.

But once I got a new laptop with 8 and actually sat down really got used to it, I like it way more. 7 feels like a relic to me whenever I use it on my old laptop.

well, if you're using windows 8 on a newer machine with a faster processor / better architecture, it's a given that it will be faster than the older laptop running windows 7.

Windows 8 was a horrible abomination. Windows 8.1 was a little better but I still prefer Windows 7 out of either of them.

Windows 10 is my preferred version of Windows now though, I dual boot it with Linux Mint.

Windows 7; simply because it's Windows 7. That and it's user friendly as opposed to how overly complex Windows 8 is, the apps on Windows 8 are almost completely useless and the start menu is a hassle and a half. Windows 7 is simple and gets the job done and has a nice look to it just like Windows 8.
