The only similarity is the fact that the story takes place in a somewhat virtual world. But looking at the latest current available episode, episode 15, I'm gonna have to say the story is quite different compared to SAO. Well, I can't judge yet because it still is half way, and i have no idea what happens next. But both of the animes give a different form of awesomeness though. *nudges everyone who reads this post

MAL would be a better place if we don't have people being sensitive over comparisons.

Anyway, I liked SAO a lot but I don't say we can judge Log Horizon from one episode just yet. The premise is similar, but from what I see Log Horizon might be taking on a more MMORPG style. Then and again, SAO had indications of MMORPG style before time skips and moving on to a main plot. I also do not expect clear indication and development of romance unlike SAO. I wouldn't compare Log Horizon to SAO to destroy or enhance my own enjoyment and would prefer to enjoy it on its own.

SAO 1st episode was certainly more promising IMO, but I feel that Log Horizon is a show with potential once we can see beyond a 'ripoff' or 'lame version' of SAO.

Just want to say that it's not a ripoff. It's a genre that needs to be explored. It's something quite serious because can humans get trapped into a mmorpg? yes, not physically yet. This is something which Connor Kuistick in Epic, Saga, and his series does. it's POPULAR because it's NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE. It's rarely written about it's something which we strive to want to understand. I love this genre. SAO is different than Log. Log has some elements which are more simple. It doesn't get bogged down but he romance just yet,...

Let's clear this up because it seems people don't research.

SAO novels came out one year before log horizon novels were released.

SAO came out in 2009 and log horizon in 2010.

If you're going to claim something make sure what you're saying is true.

OMG STOP POSTING! everyone KNOWS log horizon is not similar TO SAO, the only reason this was posted was mere speculation when log horizon only had a couple of episodes because of the same scenario being trapped in the game!~!!

SO stop POSTING reasons why god damn log horizon is not similar to SAO BECAUSE EVERYONE KNOWS IT ALREADY!!!! ( IM A LOG HORIZON FAN BTW)

Ughh!
My biggest regret is using my real name as my user name.

The continuous pursuit of finding that genuine thing.

I already don't know which fanbase is more annoying, SAO or LH one.
SAO came way first, as a webnovel, but even so, the anime adaptation was pretty lame comparing to it's source (I heard a lot of commets saying that there were no strategies or whatsoever. Ok, pick the novels then and see by yourselves. You guys will see how they skipped all the important battle things and did a retarded deus ex machina in every single battle in the anime).
And Log Horizon managed to do an incredible adaptation with most part of it's original content (just some random parts were rushed and/or skipped by).
At the end, LH and SAO are pretty good, but LH was better adapted. The End.
Is not that difficult, is it?

IDK what you are mad about since clearly like I said this was to clear the confusion and this was posted during the first few episodes of LH. So yeah it was kind of relevant at the time because there are so many people watching LH because they were saying it's really similar to SAO, though now just watching the first 10 you can see it's really different. And I can see for myself LH has a way better plot than SAO but I will still love SAO more just because it's what got me into anime.

Scroll up on this site and there are dozens of people saying 'OMG 2nd SAO YEY'. Mind you this was after LH had 1 or 2 episodes aired, heck I think people on this site are saying that before LH even started airing.

The points to make is the LH doesn't copycat from SAO (some said rip off), thats what it means if you read between the line.

Log Horizon and Sword Art Online have more in common with each other than either one of them do with .hack//sign. They even make references to each other.
Log Horizon didn't rip off Sword Art Online. It was inspired by Sword Art Online.
