Puella Magi Madoka Magica
| A bunch of translations seem to use the term "Puella Magi." Where is this even coming from? They're clearly saying Mahou Shoujo when it's in the subs. Is this a manga localization or something that's being carried over? |

| Sometimes, Japanese is used to convey what is meant so that it'll be widely understood, but then furigana (or latin in this case) is used to specify how it should be read or spoken. |

| Interestingly enough, the actual Japanese script still refers to girls as mahou shoujo. So Puella Magi may be reserved for just the title and has no real significant meaning besides sounding fancy or there's something that hasn't been revealed yet. |

IMO I dare say GG did a fairly decent job this time, which surprised me a bit considering how awful a lot of their subs have been lately (don't get me started with how much of a joke their Star Driver files were with those god damned japanese ads). |

| Latin subber? And that example isn't even remotely related. "Puella Magi" presents a uniqueness to the show and its characters that could otherwise be considered generic magical girls. Might as well be upset at Japan for sticking non-Japanese languages and references in their shows. Regardless, as I implied earlier, there is not enough information on the show to be absolutely sure. gg could be doing the right thing and is taking the initiative. Or, there is some big reveal that'll come later in regard to the name. So it can either be considered a positive or an unpredictable mistake. But I certainly don't see any negatives about choosing one particular name over the other. |

BTW I have no problem with you not liking their choice but it just seems a little silly to hate their whole translation over something minor, especially since it's still technically correct. I'm sure had they chosen to stick to Mahou Shoujo a lot of people would have hated that too since it CAN be translated. |
