Have you ever played a Pokemon romhack? Do you have a favorite? I recently enjoyed Pokemon Odyssey, a crossover with Etrian Odyssey.

I played Pokemon Clover a few years ago. I don't really care about Pokemon anymore so I mostly played it for the jokes. It was pretty funny although the humor is kinda niche with a lot of inside jokes.

I've had before Pokémon Shiny Gold on a physical cartridge, and it was great until I got to a certain point and could no longer progress because of a glitch preventing me from going to the next area.
I currently own Pokémon My Ass edition on a cartridge, and Pokémon Yellow (I think it was?) ROM hacked onto a Famicom cartridge, but I haven't played either of those yet.
I also own a few Famicom cartridges where a character of one game is sprite hacked to turn it into a Pokémon. Pokémon Green, Blue, Red etc, I have some of those. Pokémon Green is quite fun, I've completed that a few times.

I have. I have not beaten any though. And I don't remember which ones they were. I just know for one I had a ghost type Charizard for a starter.

Can't remember the name of it, but I recently played one back like a year or two ago that featured Pokemon in battle tanks. I think Nintendo was quick to remove it though unfortunately. 😭

I've done nuzlockes of Dark Rising 1 and 2 (and suffered heavily throughout), Glazed, Bronze, and Unbound..well, an older version of Unbound before a certain major antagonist got his own battle sprite. I also did a casual playthrough of Pokemon XG: Next Gen, but I think that game suffers from a lategame level spike on the Cipher Admins on Citadark Isle along with the "strategy" of just slapping Shadow Slayer and Shadow Hunter on every Shadow Pokemon to inflate the difficulty. The level problems, in my opinion, only really started at the tail end of the Cipher Key Lair.

I really enjoyed Pokemon Snakewood. It's a Pokemon game centered around a zombie apocalypse. It features absurd humor and literary references.

@DesuMaiden

If you have to ask, perhaps you shouldn't be constantly lecturing everyone on computers and calling them idiots.

@dumbandinsane Technically not pirating if you own a physical copy of the game and extract the rom from it.

Now altering the rom could be a legal issue, if you try to sell that alternated version or release it publicly for download.

But alternating, keeping and playing a rom hack you have made yourself is not illegal as long as you don't publish it in any way.

Though Acquiring roms / rom hacks from the internet / physical rom hacks is illegal.

Yabbing sesh complete. 🤓☝

@DesuMaiden You can use a GBxCart RW / or other similar product to insert the physical game and then connect it with your computer and use a downloadable program to extract the rom file directly from the physical game to your computer.

Yes.

Never played a pokemon romhack before, but I've played quite a few fire emblem ones. In that circle I've seen adverts for pokemon odyssey, but havent looked much into it. I love etrian odyssey though, so that does sound cool

I played one for Pokemon yellow. I forgot its name, but it had a new story, more pokemons, and a cheat item in the bill box with unlimited rare candy.

@DesuMaiden You can get them on Amazon, EBay or like with the GBxCart RW either directly from themselves or a third party site.

You can also get them from aliexpress, alibaba and such chinese provider sites. Though I would recommend getting one from either a EBay etch. or directly from the makers like GBxCart RW.

The software for pretty much all of the differnt variations are out there for free on the internet.

Not yet, I only played original games on emulators, and competitive battles on simulators.

Yeah I've played a lot of them in the past but not anymore. I can't pinpoint a favorite but I do definitely prefer the older more classic rom hacks like the Ruby Destiny series.

I played some Pokemon ROM hacks many years ago. They were pretty shoddy. They had some serious technical problems.
