How did life evolve to require a substance so devoid of nutrition?

It is quite interesting. Probably has somwthing to do with the simple chemical composition of water and cells using it. Or something

Because life requires a solvent for essential processes, and water is a highly versatile solvent.

Yeah, I think drinking it is weird and very inconvenient. It would have been better to absorb water through our skin. No swallowing necessary.

The water one drinks has nutrition unless you're drinking rainwater, namely micronutrients.

Also just try to recall the highschool biology course as to why it may confer other benefits, provided you didn't drop out of highschool.

Water is the most versatile solvent that's readily available on the planet.
So no, water does in fact absolutely make sense.

Well, I was about to drift off into some naive mythology, musing that it's simply too hot here - that's why we never got those pale-green skies, heavy with ammonia clouds, and dark, viscous ammonia-water oceans, where a giant anaerobic turtle leisurely bathes. Oh, my god, I'd trade half a kingdom for just one glance at such a creature!

But, to be completely serious for a moment: my rational side insists it's all Tlaloc's doing - the guy just needed an excuse to slap us with a rain tax. And of course, he collected it with style...

Consider that a significant chunk of the vitamins is water-soluble, water is exceptionally important. A human body needs a very tiny amount* of vitamins, but they need either fat or water to make them functional.

* Vitamins are not miracle nutritions, so don't overdose on them, people.

Since the human body is mostly water, does that mean we are technically drinking ourselves? Yes, we must be a very thirsty race.

I think it's more disturbing when people drink energy drinks like it's water
