Could a light novel author reconsider a move in their light novel if the fans like or dislike something. For example in Konosuba I suspect Megumin wasn't initially the main love interest of Kazuma but the character proved so popular the author changed it.

Will? Sometimes

Should? Not really

Konosuba was published online, so yes. It is not like authors don't have twitter.

Apothecary Diaries is famously adjusted by fan reaction to its online drafts with really major changes like character deaths (or survival).

Happened with Kyo Kara Maoh, the author initially insisted that the series is Boys Gag and not Boys Love even saying that she feels weird when fans send her letters asking who Yuuri will end up with because she only wants more comedy and is not thinking about shipping. Fast forward to 2016 their official account is promoting Yuuri x Wolfram as "the royal couple", story and consistency with character personalities go straight out of the window in favor of shipping the guys together because that sells. The entire fanbase is filled with fujos after all, in fact the author herself is a fujo who simps to her beloved hot gay rapist so I suspect that she was lying in the beginning.

Shouldn't imo. If an author doesn't have a vision and get influenced easily to be more popular makes him weak imo.

Everytime I get reminded of this Konosuba end Megumin spoiler my heart breaks for my hentai crusader. My girl deserved better.

Not sure why you are even asking this question, when you have already answered it for yourself with your prime example. lol
