What's an anime you think had a better or at least good non-english dub in your opinion
It can be about a certain character's voice that suits him better than the original or the way they use their language in a certain show(dialogue, comedy, emotion)doesn't necessarily need to be better as a whole but rather in one aspect at least

For example:the country i come from had some pretty good dubs with some of them having better comedy and jokes than the og like Shaman King

I wouldn’t say a lot better but I think Light sounds more his age in the dub than sub so I prefer it because it makes certain scenes more apt?

@Iamgirl Light's dub voice was pretty good but it can't beat that psycho laugh sub scene at the end:D

I think Yucie from petite princess Yucie had a better dub voice than the Japanese. Sad too because her English voice actor only did this one series according to MAL.

@Retro8bit it's interesting that you included an older show, many people today might say that old dubs were awful 99%of the time
Also i'll have to check out this one,i've never heard of it before:)

Cyberpunk Edgerunners. I wouldn't necessarily say it's better than the Japanese dub on a technical level - it still has the usual issues of awkward timing and speech patterns - but the story taking place in an American city makes the English dub just work better. also, some of the character are voiced by the same VAs as in the game, and there are actually some Japanese characters that do still speak Japanese in the English dub just like they do in the game.

I'd also say that most dubs of DBZ do a better job than the original, simply based on the fact that Goku and Gohan sound like an old lady.

for anything that takes place in Japan though, no dub will ever do a better job than the original. honorifics are borderline untranslatable without skewing their meaning, and without them a huge part of the social structure and relationship between characters goes missing.

Yeah check it out my dude! The series definitely needs more love, especially if you like medieval whimsical like tales. Has a pretty decent plot twist at the end too!

@krautnelson i feel like many of the shows we watched as kids will have a better dub, maybe not necessarily because it's actually better but because we grew up with them like with DBZ
I agree that shows that take place in the western world tend to have better dubs,Black Lagoon is an excellent example of that because of all the slang and swear words used

Not sure how it compares to Japanese and English as I haven't seen it yet, but I have heard many positive things about the LATAM Spanish dub of Dragon Ball Z with Mario Castañeda's portrayal of Goku being pretty well liked among Spanish speakers.
This post is brought to you by your local transfem gamer goblin. Will not tolerate bigotry and will fight against "anti-woke" sentiment to make the anime community a safer place.

@dndlion True, I know hwat you mean i can't really watch anything spanish because that language desn't fit for me arabic and french are really bad as well. I prefer watching japanese over german, i've only seen some in german, but i could see Monster with great german dub.

@krautnelson >Goku and Gohan sound like an old lady
Am I literally the only one NOT to have any problems with Masako Nozawa as Goku, Gohan and Goten? Sheesh, the hate people dole out towards her is just ridiculous.
The reason she stayed on as the voice actress for the Son males in Dragon Ball is... because they're actually NOT meant to be seen as ultra-macho the way Kenshiro from Hokuto no Ken or even the earlier JoJos like Joseph and Jotaro are. Goku is a goofball. And he stays a goofball as an adult.
Sure, I don't mind Goku's power ups having those AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHs being acted out by men... But I feel the dubs kinda forget the more goofy, naive side of Goku.

Disagree on Edgerunners. The universe does have universal translation so... you can interpret the Japanese as being heard by the Tyger Claws. Just saying.

@WilliamMinerva20 I haven't seen any of those in French dub,i experienced French dub only through those funny memes like Pokemon's dub voice for Goldeen,so i may have some prejudice for it but i'll definitely check them out

Of course the original Japanese voice is the best among all, but as for dubbing, I find the Arabic dub the best for me, because I grew up on it and it was very wonderful and full of good values for children, I loved the anime and started watching it because of this wonderful dubbing.. especially the old one it was creative, they even dubbed the anime songs.

If this dubbing didn't exist, we wouldn't have known about these beautiful animes..So I am very grateful to my favorite kids channel Spacetoon and to all the other Arab institutions that work on dubbing anime for us since we were young.

I Also Like Naruto Shippuden English dubbing It was so amazing especially Madara's voice it's really good..
and HunterXHunter 99 in English dudding was amazing especially Killua and hisoka It was cood and cool.. I remember that the English dubbing that I saw was from Canada so I'm very thankful ^^

@LOLOz Thank you for sending such great dubs
I listened to all of them and i have to say, they're better than i expected
Slam Dunk was cool,HxH 1999 has a beautiful vocal that goes perfectly with this melody and Pokemon is jusr great no matter which dub you choose
I think Arabic can be great for these Opening songs if done right because Arabic is very charming and poetic

I also agree with you on Naruto's English dub which is great
They did a great job with the voices like Madara,Pain,Naruto,Sasuke,Kakashi,Jiraiya,Rock Lee...

@dndlion Thank you for this wonderful topic, and thank you for listening to these openings. Yes, the Arabic language is very charming, and if you watch the dubbed animes, you will be enchanted by their dubbing style. They also add good values and morals to teach us in each series. There are also anime openings that they wrote by themselves, such as Dragon Ball Z, Conan, and many others, but unfortunately they are not famous, despite all the efforts they have made for us, which have influenced many generations, even Animelist did not put the names of the Arab dubbers with the rest of the world's dubbers to add them in my favorites People list, even though they are very wonderful ,and this is so sad (T_T)

@LOLOz It's awesome that they put so much love into dubs and that they wanna teach us about good morals and values instead of just hyper producing dubs so they can get money off of it

Dutch dubs for stuff like Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-gi-oh,.... Weren't the best but I'm so used to it from when I was younger, that I like them more than the english ones.

It was pretty funny though, having the same voice actors in every anime and even as a kid being able to immediately point it out.
Nothing amazing ever happens here. Everything is ordinary.

@pigdestroyer Yep,exactly
I remember when i was a kid,i watched many anime and cartoons and memorized basically all the voice actors and then when i would go out somewhere and hear some ads i'd immediately recognize the voice if it was from a voice actor:D
