| Kamichu! is similar to a Natsume Yuujinchou. Fuujin Monogatari is another like it. It involves supernatural powers (controlling the wind) and is episodic. Tanoshii Muumin Ikka is quite episodic and it's a totally different fantasy world than the usual ones in all animes. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou doesn't involve anything supernatural, but it has a relaxing vibe as well. |
| Tenpou Ibun Ayakashi Ayashi stands out to me as being the most similar in spirit even if the basic plot outline seems a little different. There's more focus on longing, mortal or spiritual inadequacy, escapism, mortality, etc. than on the spectacle of action and battles as it's lower budget and any action-related sequences aren't really where it shines or strives to shine. It's one I rarely ever hear discussed anywhere. The demonic or otherwordly force are referred to by the characters in-universe in this world as "Yoi", but they functionally serve the same role as mononoke, ayakashi, youkai, etc. Moyashimon, even though the creatures in this instance are scientifically proven microorganisms (bacteria, yeast, etc.) rather than supernatural phenomena and spirits. Creates a similar atmosphere and function in practice though. Slice of Life, can be comedic, can be educational, etc. |
