Saw this years ago and didn't think much of, I recently watched in and actually enjoyed it more than I thought. The episodic style and the way Elaina doesn't always try to be a hero was rather enjoyable. I'm thinking of checking out the novels since this will probably never get more seasons, but I want another show like this, so any recommendation are good. I get there's the lists people make but I prefer a more upfront, in-depth recommendation.

Kino's Journey is also an episodic show and has a somewhat morally grey MC. It's also just a really good anime in general. Watch the original though, not the remake.

There’s a new title called Once upon a witch’s death. Both anime’s feel similar as both MC are witches. The 2 characters are different, but could be close.

The obvious ones are Kino and Last tour. Others are just relatively close. These are the ones I thought of:
Mushishi - classics, tranquil atmosphere, less action
Death parade - episodic nature, and MC doesn't try to be a hero or anything
Link click - most modern one, and very highly rated
Katanagatari - episodic, more adventurous, a lot of action
Cowboy Bebop - classics, a lot of adventures but every episode new planet

Light Novels are hit or miss, tried one volume myself and didn't get the same feels. Maybe just a poor translation..

I could recommend some manga, but no animes that stick out to me like this except I suppose Frieren has a similar way of doing it like this.

I agree. Once A Upon a Witch's Death is on the same page. Good recommendation

If you like Elaina then you can watch Jinrui wa suitai shimashita, the protagonist's personality quite similar to Elaina. It's also quite fun and worth watching.

I’ll second Mushishi, since I only saw it mentioned once. The protagonist is also a traveler who deals with supernatural phenomena that the locals-of-the-week are experiencing. Very enjoyable.

A stretch to say the same vibe or theme, but if you want a casual slice of life witch anime I'd suggest 'Flying witch'. it's light hearted and modern but it's a good watch either way.

Somali to Mori no Kamisama (12ep) It's not exactly about witches but it's a journey into an exquisite world so beautiful and aesthetic it will give you the same vibes trust me. i this this one more than wandering witch tbh
