I'm not interested of watching this seeing how really bad and cringe it looks in the trailer but I am curious to the people who watched it is it as bad as we thought is going to be or it surprisingly good?

Netflix has lost all credibility already and you can safely assure that their western adaptations of Asian product will be a disgrace.

It’s not on the level of the death note movie but it’s not great either from what I’ve heard.

It’s basically just not following the Kakegurui story at all, there are already Asian live action adaptions.

I watched all of it on a night shift lmao the cringe is horrible but i found it interesting how they changed up the plot and added a new dynamic to it
As for live action adaptation comparatively its better than most as for just a live action series in general comparatively its worse than most 😂 up to you if you give it a shot

It’s mid… you can’t watch while comparing it to the original, it’s a completely different show but it would’ve gone crazy in 2020

It clears the fraud anime for about four episodes. Unless you're very judgemental like some people in this thread, you should enjoy it just fine. Some say it's cringe, but that's just them, coz I found this less cringey than the edgy ugly-ass faces they make in that anime. Like seriously, one moment they looked anime beautiful, the next they look like abominations when they put on those faces.

Anyway, in the series they aren't this tryhard. I decently enjoyed the series but it fell off for me after ep 4 I think, because the writing became kinda sloppy. Your own case could different tho.

I'd advise you to actually check it out even one episode(you never know if you might like it)

did not know it was already out, but I'm definitely gonna watch it now. Looks like a Trainwreck, but it should be a fun watch because of that lmao
(but seriously, the appeal of the anime is that there's crazy lesbians, idk why they thought more men and plot would be good for Kakegurui fans, shoulda just made their own show and then had even more creative freedom. Though I guess that might not guarantee people will watch unlike using an IP)

Netflix sure never learned from Disney's Snow White (and even from their precedent live adaptations)

I'm all for the inclusivity that netflix thought about, but the series was mid to downright bad. They followed the plot from the anime around 30% but the actors playing the characters seemed not fitting, except for the one playing Yumeko, which was a bit good. then it went downhill starting from mid of ep 3. thats my opinion.

no I agree. first thing I noticed was the asian erasure. It's kinda crazy making a live action remake of an anime that is heavily influenced by japanese history and power dynamics and make it something totally diffrent with almost no asian cast.

Just finished it, I found it entertaining and would watch another season. Thought it was less cringey than the anime for sure.

I see and let me guess it does not have the over the top facial expressions like in the anime right?

If you look at it as a separate story it’s mediocre but as a kakegurui live action it’s really bad. It completely changes the personality of a lot of the cast and the games they play just aren’t as good as the ones in the anime.

Having not seen the anime yet, I think the Netflix adaptation is ok *if* you don’t think of it as an anime adaption. But that’s just me

I hadn't watched Kakegurui in years (both anime/jdrama) but I remember liking the jdrama more because of the over the top laughing/acting and their ep 1 was actually more tense than the western adaption when Yumeko was going crazy over gambling

netflix version was just so lame/crap that I ended up hate watching it - race swapping, adding in annoying gay characters and a mascot for no reason and unnecessary romance
