Some YouTube shorts made me want to rewatch frieren, and the dub kind of impressed me. Should I rewatch it with subs again or dubs?

I liked both. I'll rec the dub on the second watch especially for Frieren's English VA (she has a more mature voice and it's really fitting).

If youve already seen the Sub id reccomend dub. I thought it was quite good and It'll help the show seem a bit more fresh.

Yeah absolutely. Might take a while to get used to since you came from sub, but I promise it's totally worth it

I watch anime almost always dub, and frieren has alot better dub voice acting then other shows I've seen

There is always an option but I think sub is better. I might be biased though I don't watch anything in dub.

I watched the full dub and part of the sub - I personally liked the dub more. I’m someone who watches sub like 80% of the time, I just preferred this dub a little more

Assuming English dubs, yes. Fits better with the western aesthetics of the setting. The signs are also in (translation convention) English.

It depends on the voice acting for me whether I watch sub or dub or how I start the anime. I started Frieren with the dub and I think the VAs did a great job.

As someone who doesn't really have a preference between sub and dub, I would say the sub is superior to the dub when it comes to Frieren.

This is proof that the dub misses. Frieren dub voice is so bad people start calling her "mommy" when that’s not her personality at all, if anything she the complete opposite of this.

That’s why the Sein is so disappointed he doesn’t have a "mommy" around

If the dub actors interest you, give it a try! I mostly watch english subbed, but there are some good english dubbed out there.

Dub is so so good! The way everyone talks is so fitting for the setting and the VAs are giving their all for these roles. Could not recommend more!

Yeah, I watched it with dub first, and it's good.

Fits well with the European setting, too. Usually not as much culture-specific nuance to miss out on when a series isn't set in Japan/the characters aren't canonically Japanese. Or at least not as much that makes it into the English subtitles for sub watchers to notice. (Thinking of the Spice & Wolf franchise where apparently Holo uses an archaic register when speaking in the original text, but it doesn't translate, so you wouldn't be missing out watching the dub, which happens to be peak voice acting anyway.) So my rule of thumb is to watch dubs for series like Spy x Family and Frieren set in Europe and subs for everything else.

But a lot depends on how you feel about a certain character's voice in your native language, good or bad. People say subs are better, but most don't speak Japanese, and as someone who watches mostly dubs and listens to only Japanese music at this point despite not speaking it yet, the brain doesn't filter voices the same way when the words aren't understood. It's harder for voices to sound cringe when you can't pick up on their full meaning. So Japanese is often safer, but if the dub is actually good, it'll go harder once you get used to it.

Both versions are solid, but the dub is slightly better—and easier to follow—so I’d say it’s worth a watch.

Me and my ex–best friend watched it dubbed, and it didn’t disappoint. Especially episode 10… if you know, you know.

why would you rewatch something you just saw in another language. wait a few years or watch dub before s2 comes out If u want to watch that in dub.

Never understood people who rewatch something they remember instead of wating awhile. I always wait a few years so it feels fresh.

im usually a dub hater (aside from ghost stories that a legendary historic dub) because i think its very hard to make english fit the japanese artstyle, same way it feels weird seeing the Bondocks in Japanese 💀💀💀 it gives of a totally different vibe.
that said frieren dub cast is preety good id say it's good overall. expect some changes to the lines and to see some different vibes to the characters (frierens voice for example while super calm and soothing in jp is a bit deeper and seductive, yes a bit mommy, in english, Stark's voice acting is hilarious and spot on tho).
ive rewatxhed this show lke 5 times already in both versions and i must say, theres rly no way to go wrong when the show is that good.

while eng dub for this show is good, frieren's english va gives her a very diferent vibe, while you may like it or prefer it it's not rly "more fitting" as Frieren (the character itself) isn't mature, a total social awkward. while she takes bits of her personality from flamme when she teaches (like she did with the exam team and fern) outside thise scenario shes much more of a child than anyone else, in most scenes it's not that frieren acts like an irresponsible adult that needs a "mom", its much more that Fern becomes her mom, even emotionally.

I don't get that people are so easy going about dubs these days, for me 99.9% of the time they totally ruin the mood but maybe it's just me, they always make everything sound cheesy somehow, but then I am English, I just don't like Californian accents. Aot dub is OK, and Love Is War because of the narrator, and that's it. Frieren is horrible and totally ruins one of my favourite shows.
