Why has Ave Mujica, with an 8.26 in just 5 episodes, become the anime in the Bang Dream franchise (even surpassing It's My Go) with the highest rating on myanimelist at the moment?

In an anime that is about music and drama, where music is conspicuous by its absence and where we only have drama and more drama (for the moment) why is it causing such a furor? Could it be that it is the current trend where "edgy" and dark sells "and we like to suffer hahahaha. What do you expect for the future? Will there be calm after the storm? Will we have any new Ave Mujica song? Will it be more drama and more drama until the end? . I am loving it so far, but I admit that I am missing music.

I'm sitting on the 7-8 fence and it'll probably depend on if any sort of karma/reflection comes to the 3 bandmates that deserve it. It did good making me dislike characters that seem like they should be disliked so far but how it goes towards the end will make or break it.

And compared to It's My Go, I think it's just better. Drama makes sense and is explained, and music is better. I didn't spend a whole season putting up with characters crying and yelling asking about why the band broke up to never get an answer.

@Hormigo No problem, what the BanG Dream franchise needed was not to go darker but I needed to lighten up and have fun, not any of this melodramatic nonsense

@ajw215799 I coincide in part. Until now I like, but if all this drama is going to be maintained from episode 1 to 13 as I said in some comment, I will end up tired. In a music anime I need music, if not, to see only drama I go to another type of anime

@ajw215799 in my case I do not detest any character, because I am aware that somehow they will be "evangelized" as usually normal in this type of anime (although I can be wrong)

Because MyGO and Ave Mujica have by far the best writing, production, presentation and directing in the franchise, and Ave Mujica has the sequel bias on MyGO (people who didn't like MyGO prob wouldn't continue after). So it makes sense to me. If Ave Mujica sticks the landing, I expect the rating to rise further and further.

I enjoy the simple fun and the more straightforwardly likable characters of the game and previous entries, but AveMyGO is really on a different level of quality.

It’s no match for Girls Band Cry, the drama side is far too prevalent. But it’s probably what viewers these days enjoy. The ones who won’t watch slice of life because ‘nothing happens’ (TikTok gen). I still like the MyGo moments and won’t judge til the end, a good conclusion might save it. My high score is just for the Ave Mujica songs, they’re outstanding!

Isn’t this just a case of survivorship bias?

People who enjoyed BangDream/MyGo are more likely to continue watching Ave Mujica, while those who didn’t will not. Even if someone rated both equally, Ave Mujica’s score would still be higher because it isn’t dragged down by lower ratings from previous seasons. This means as long as Ave Mujica meets expectations, its score will keep rising. It doesn’t necessarily indicate a better product.

IMO, while the drama and psychological elements are much stronger, I’m still not as emotionally invested in Ave Mujica as I did with MyGo. I don’t think my feelings toward Ave Mujica will change by the end of this season. Given that MyGo is going to help Sakiko, it’s only going to make me like them more.

Truth is absolute but human perception of truth is always relative.

@kyou_on Your point of view is very interesting. It is true that Yeah we do see Mygo and Ave Mujica as a whole is normal for them to feed and since Mygo is also present in Ave Mujica and it seems that they will have An active role in the next chapters benefits the series. I am like anime Ave Mujica but I think there is too much drama and little ave Mujica as a band, so much so that in 5 chapters they have dissolved. greetings

@ajw215799 well Idgaf so much about the anime tbh the real deal is the real band anyway.Watching Akane hitting those drums like mad drummer is 100xuch better than watching anime. Better just go to live show and buy the music cd

GBC was good, but the reason it's remembered so fondly is because of how it developed in the later half with episodes like 8, 10, 11.
Early on it was considered a just ok band show and jellyfish can't swim in the night was getting more attention due to a stronger start.

In my opinion because the successful of myGO so people already love the new generation of bang dream and want more about this new lore, and myGO story itself haven't finished yet, it still had a lot of explanation like why saki want to quit and why she made ave mujica,

So the fans already had opinion and theories about it, and when they watched ave mujica ep 1
the story already blew their expectations and theories so they want more, and till this ep 5, the story still great, everyone can't wait to the next episode, and if you in X, you could see everyone hype this alot, they make theories and discussions,

Ave mujica rated that high with only 5 episode, it's not like myGO or all bang dream franchise before were bad or something, it's because the successful of the predecessor themselves,

What I'm trying to say is myGO walked so ave mujica could run

Well in Its MyGo!!!!!, we haven't got a full proper music performance till episode 7 (I count the first Haruhikage as more like a plot MV).
I regard the Kill Kiss performance in episode 1 as an extended OP so we might get a proper music performance in the next couple of episodes.

And regarding its strong start in the ratings, it is just a case of it being a direct sequel to an already a very good show. It either matched or a bit surpassed the expectations for it.
Personally, I like the pacing in Its MyGo!!!!! more but we have a more engaging plot now in AveMujica, so it meets my expectations for it.

@rookielazer It is normal that in Mygo we had the first late music interpretation, because the group was being forming, but at least we saw how they practiced, we are going what was a formation of one of Band, instead in Ave Mujica, the band is already formed from Chapter 1 we have only seen its destruction and focus only on the drama. There may be a musical interpretation in the Proximo chapters, but I doubt that it is a ave Mujica, because the band does not exist and I do not think that this is solved (if solved) to the last chapters. That is my problem so far, A lot of drama and little music band. Greetings

Everyone's missing something CRUCIAL to appreciating Ave Mujica to the fullest. There was an ARG that concluded just before MyGO aired. That, in conjunction with the Ave Mujica lives (i.e. concerts) and MyGO itself, was the main way that this anime was set up thematically and narratively.

The characterization of these background characters in MyGO has been a puzzle two years in the making. The writing is fantastic precisely because it highlights just how mysterious these characters are. These are realistic and real experiences. Not supernatural, not allegorical. Real. All of it. Just as realistic and true to life as the rest of the franchise, if not moreso. More realistic than Kokoro, even. And part of the magic is that you have to truly dig deep and open your mind to realize that. These real experiences are a mystery that take compassion and open-mindedness to even become aware of, much less understand and empathize with when you come across it.

Let's take Mutsumi as an example. Her behavior in MyGO is extraordinarily subtle. She barely talks, yet she's always communicating something critical. The true significance behind each and every moment she's on screen is barely perceptible, even with the context that's continuing to unfold. The fact that she turns out to be a realistic, compassionate depiction of dissociative identity disorder was foreshadowed extremely well, even though I retained a lot of skepticism that it'd be handled with even a modicum of respectful authenticity. Estimates show that about 1.5 percent of people have DID at some point in their life. For comparison, 3 percent of 2020 U.S. census respondents identified as Alaskan or continental U.S. indigenous people. That's a hell of a lot of people that have experienced something VERY similar to Mutsumi's journey to date (ep. 5). Again, in a very real sense. Not metaphorical.

To me, the fact that, in the process of understanding Mutsumi, you learn about a true-to-life, shockingly common experience that you would never have thought twice about? One that's shockingly common? One that's so drastically different from how it's typically portrayed in the media? One that's so much more deserving of your compassion and understanding than you would have ever given it credit for? It makes this show a solid 10 for me. It's everything I like about Evangelion, except you come to learn that Ave Mujica is fictional in the same sense that the mechs are real - just barely, but extraordinarily surprisingly so. I'm so excited to see how the fantheories pan out.

Imo, characters this season are boring af. MyGO characters are a lot more fun and likeable while the Ave Mujica band still feel like side characters to me with little to no progression or personality with them. Sakiko still annoys me.

However the Mutsumi plot I’m finding very interesting with the multiple personalities. Amazingly written and I love how I’m the more recently episode how the two personalities talk to each other and how the dormant personality is personified as a doll/plush. Sill a 7-8/10 for me. Not as good as Bocchi the Rock or Girls Band Cry.

Still s really good series though

god forbid a stagnating franchise trying something new to gain new audiences lol. i think your dislike stems from your dissatisfaction wuth the direction these two series took, which i can understand but i think it made you look away from the qualities ave mujica and mygo genuinely have, it has great writing with how things are interwoven and built up, great cinematography that we haven't really seen from the franchise before despite it being animated by the same studio and the same director as previous seasons exc. s1. it's also best to not confine mujica and mygo in the mold of what you think bang dream should be, they weren't planned as a part of the girls band party universe to begin with, they were always planned as their own thing. I've been a fan from the very first year of girls band party EN release date, and i can confidently say that mujica and mygo deserved its dtatus as the highest rated anime series in the franchise.

in a way, mygo and mujica carried the spirit of bang dream S1 which were also drama driven, they did it better than S2 and S3 did, which in my opinion were really made not from the desire to tell a solid story, but as fan service for those who've played the mobile game (especially S2).

People like deep makes sense drama.
Soap opera drama.

GBC is superficial soapy drama...still enjoyable though...drama conveyed with the comedy that worked sometimes, cringed often.

but i think GBC did well not because of the superficial drama but because of the CGI mocap performances which are stellar. There was alot of praise because of the mocap cgi.

Thats where the high ratings come from.
