@TheAnimeLogician Yeah, fillers are the worst! It's such a common thing in long shounen anime. It was so disappointing waiting all week for a new episode only to find out it was filler, haha. I couldn't wait five years for Bleach—I was getting spoiled left and right—so I ended up reading the manga. It's funny how much less filler there is in the manga.
@boredzura Yeah, within the manga it's mainly cannon stuff or stuff that's actually part of the original story. Filler is only created so that the anime can catch up to the manga and the producers can have a break.

Robotech back in the 1980s piqued my interest in exploring more of the genre as it slowly became more accessible in the late 1980s & early 1990s.
@MKSTEEL Nice! So you got into anime due to the Mecha genre, honestly I find that respectable. As a Gundam fan I've loved mechs since I was 10 years old, and even though for some people the story can be a bit too complexed I don't mind it at all.

I've seen a little on tv when I was a kid (like sailor moon and pokemon) but didn't recognize it as an anime. First real encounter happened years later when I watched a clip on youtube and it good me interested enough to watch my first whole series.
@Starra23 That's one thing I miss about old YouTube, when content wasn't banned due to copyright, and everyone could enjoy whatever they wanted. Makes me glad I got to finish the entire Ranma 1/2 anime when it was still on YouTube and I believe that is where I finished Rurouni Kenshin a 2nd and 3rd time as well.

I got into it by watching cartoons as a kid. The earliest anime that I really enjoyed was Dragon Ball Z. I didn't know what anime was at the time. It was only as I got older that I could tell the difference between anime and the cartoons I was watching.

@DesuMaiden Well, each season I watch 18-20 and there is 4 seasons within a year so in total, that would be.... anywhere from 72-80 anime titles within a year, sometimes a little more if there is a movie release for the anime.

@kaskue Ah! An AMV enjoyer, you know, I miss the days of AMVS and when they were in particular, a hobby and actual content for anime channels, sadly copyright sucks and unless you know how to produce your own music, then good luck.

I got more and more into AMVs because my friend from high school would always show me AMVs of Runescape and being mixed with Breaking Benjamin and Skillet.

This was back in 2012-2013 I believe.

I was introduced to anime in the late 90s, early 2000s. Thanks to Cartoon Network. The very first anime I recall was Dragon Ball Z which my father put on for me. But very likely he was able to due to Cartoon Network especially with them rolling out Pokemon on American television and my Pokemon craze kicked in soon after that. I can faintly recall Sailor Moon at one point. Later Cartoon Network's Toonami block would expose me to anime like Naruto, Bleach, FLCL, Escaflowne, etc. It was various little anime appearances over the years that would continue to pique my interest that by 2005 when I saw Spirited Away I was convinced it was a piece of Entertainment worthy of my attention. I took it serious after Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away.

I like that some of you bring up that bad times can draw us in to anime. I agree, I find over the years anime has been there for me in a way no one has been there for me. Even my favorite Japanese rockstar has let me down but I can still count on anime.

Yay, a Code Geass mention!

@TheAnimeLogician that was the start point, but I branched out into all kinds of anime sub-genres after, these days Slice of Life would likely be the genre I have the most interest in. But I've always been fairly eclectic selecting anime, and with the myriad choices these days thanks to streaming access I vector into all kinds of stuff these days, older and newer.

@thehugeanifan See! That's what I love about this community, you guys give me good examples of how it's like to be introduced into this beautiful medium and overall, I'm proud to be weeb. Someday I wish to make my YT career a series thing to where I make content for everyone so that everyone can have something to enjoy.

Currently I make videos based on anime news, anime tierlist, and overall, my thoughts on certain things. Soon I will create AMVs, anime reviews, manga reviews, and even introductions to certain things like Anime conventions and types of anime fans. I have tons of work to do and to get done, as I also produce music and I play video games on my days off.

I'm also learning how to be a programmer so I can create my own video game and make tons of money while coding.

We had a TV channel here that aired a lot of stuff. Vandread, Zenki, Tokyo Mew Mew, Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, Spider Riders, FMA (2003 version), among many others. At some point in 2009 they picked up Bleach, and around either late 2009 or early 2010 I decided to see if I could find a way to watch it online (naturally for free). Don't remember the exact reason, think it was some cliffhanger ending leading into rebroadcast. But either way, after searching for it via extensive googling I found a site that had Bleach and a lot of other similar looking animated shows on it, and looking into it even further I discovered that stuff is called "anime". For better or for worse, I've been watching it ever since.

Got into Japan (mostly games and music) thanks to a friend. At that time I did watch some anime but never distinguished between anime and western cartoons

My first knowing contact with anime I got in a convention (the Japan day), where my friend dragged me into and introduced me to his friendgroup. They recommended me to watch Fairy Tail and from there I started to watch more and more anime, a lot of them on YouTube like Elfen Lied, and some battle shounen like Naruto. The first anime I watched without recommendation was The Cockpit, as we talked about WW2 in school and learned for example how it is treated in Italy, as Japan was allied I was interested about their portrayal and came to this anime . My first manga I had was A Silent Voice.

I usually experienced the community in Real Life, rather than over the internet as I had bad experiences with the 2010ish forums. Maybe nothing changed just my perception as I grew up, but I decided last year to try again getting in contact over internet and I like the community here ( yeah there are some political threads here) but overall the people are kind ^_^

Don't mind me, just vibing here ^_^

This doesn't mean I'll drop my computer science studies or electronic music production. I also have a new music project on the way: a new metal album. For EDM, I produce Progressive House, Dubstep, and Trance music (I also have ideas of doing Techno), but for Metal, I want to do Deathcore, Death Metal, Anime covers, and lots of other stuff.

I also need to do Let's Play of videos games on my channel or just stream those games on Twitch.

And that is understandable, when AOT was released, anime became even more mainstream and afterwards, anime became less and less of a "cultural thing" and more of a "normalized thing". I've been a fan of anime since I was eight years old and honestly, it's much different compared to how it is now.

@Powerchan Nice! Becoming more of an anime fan during college, so you were a late bloomer so to say? Honestly, that's interesting. Usually, most anime fans become more involved with anime during their childhood years or even high school; Regardless, I think that's an experience I've yet to hear about, which is always nice to hear about new scenarios and such.
