For seasonal watchers: Which, if any, anime from the current season did you drop after a single episode?

It says it all in the title. Maybe those who typically only watch a very small number of seasonal series and are sufficiently adept at selecting ones in advance they know they'll enjoy haven't had this experience lately or at all - if you only picked, say, one, two, or three series to watch and found something worthwhile enough in all to continue.

But if you're "sampling" eight, 10, 15, 20+ shows, the odds start to go up you'll stumble on those which will turn you off right away, even if you were initially pulled in by the synopsis, the poster art, the studio, or any one or combination of factors.

So yeah. Seasonal junkies: Which series from the current autumn 2024 season did you drop after only one episode and why? Elaborate with your reasoning if possible.

If you want to mention current seasonals you already dropped after two, three, or more episodes that's fine too as I also dropped some series this season after a few episodes (and think I still likely will soon in the case of some I'm undecided on), but I'm mainly curious about the hard instant drops.

I used to give up after the first episode, but I haven't done that for several years now. I always try to watch the whole anime even if it's garbage.

I don't often drop seasonals after 1 episode; I try to give it 3-5 episodes.

But I did drop Kimi wa Meido-sama after 1 episode. I knew about the ex-assassin maid premise beforehand, and the first episode did absolutely nothing interesting that it was almost insulting. Everything was really predictable, straightforward, and has already been done elsewhere, and I just couldn't imagine getting anything out of it. And it's not like the bar was very high; I'm someone who likes Violet Evergarden and Komi-san Can't Communicate.

Also, I dropped Ao no Miburo after 3 episodes, but I really wanted to stop after the first episode. Shounen action about the Shinsengumi in Meiji-period Kyoto sounded appealing, but the animation was so barebones and the dramatic moments so overblown and nonsensical that I just couldn't stomach it.

This season, only Mecha-ude. Honestly, I didn’t think there was anything really wrong with it, it just seemed like it wasn’t something that I wanted to spend 12 episodes with. I wish I could go into more detail, but it was just a general “feeling” that it wasn’t the right show for me.

I’m still watching and enjoying everything else I picked up this season.

Last time I dropped an anime after the first episode was Blue Archive the Animation in Spring 2024 season. All that harem crap was just too much.

Myself? Sometimes I offer up that information off the bat and include answers to my own questions in the OP. Other times I just reply later separately with that info. In this case, I don't have much to contribute as I only have one definite confirmed case and one potential one.

The one which already occurred is Dandadan. I dropped Dandadan after the first episode because it was way too fast-paced and high-energy for me and what I was expecting. Basically, going into it, I didn't know that it was a battle shounen. But when I learned this fact afterward it clicked and made sense to me. I don't watch many of that type or subgenre of series.

The other one which remains at "potential" status is Nageki no Bourei wa Intai shitai. Potential because I have only watched the first episode, but that was several weeks ago, yet I've neither had the resolve to continue or comfort with the sense of finality of dropping it yet. But the reason it's here at all and being considered is just for being another essentially cheesy and generic fantasy with a main character who is either OP or thought of as OP and worshipped as a deity by a harem and other stragglers.

That was on my mental checklist of series to potentially try at some point. Not of the ones I had planned in advance of the beginning of the season, but one of the ones which only really caught my attention a couple of weeks into the season. Ultimately, I never ended up watching it at all as I just couldn't shake the feeling it was going to be low effort cookie cutter and leave me feeling like I'd be equally content just reading a brief written overview of it online. Around the time when I would have started watching it, I'm glad that I decided to watch Raise wa Tanin ga Ii instead.

Wait, what?! This is the first I'm hearing of this. I'm treating it as bombshell news. I'm also watching that series and have been from the first week. It was one of my most anticipated series of the new season (but isn't in my Top 5 among the seasonals right now, so...uh....eh).

What prompted you to drop it? At least, the whole magical academy, cute girls, colorful aesthetic seems like the kind of series you'd like. But is it the story apart from that?

You were definitely not alone there. I watched that series all the way through (which was also annoying just in terms of sourcing it since the subtitles were so atrocious on the usual websites that I had to resort to torrenting, similar to Girls Band Cry from the same season), but a lot of folks at the time seemed to be dropping it after the first episode or right after the second when the second didn't immediately address every mysterious thread or confusing plot point or bit of worldbuilding questions which were raised in episode one.

I don't regret sticking around to see it through as it was an inoffensive (in terms of never being aggressively bad) mostly cute and relaxing series with hints of a deeper plot and fractious world setting treated in such a backburner cavalier way that it was kind of just a "Watch with brain powered down and one eye open" type series but can't say it ever rose above 6/10-tier at best.

@WatchTillTandava I just hated that random flirting and blushing in the previous episode. That's why I dropped it. Otherwise, it was a decent show. I really liked the art style.

yakuza fiance.... I gave it a shot because I remembered reading the manga a few years back, but it was a little too creepy for me to bear. tbf though, it's the only seasonal I've attempted to watch so far. the rest I'm waiting for since I prefer binge watching.

Kimi no maid sama.

I wasn't planning on watching it. Just had some free time see to check out 1 episode, and didn't do anything special to made be stick around. It's not bad but I already watch too many I don't have time.
