It's kinda weird to me how he barely even uses the little familiar for anything.

okay i will try to explain what from Reading the manga (i dont believe its spoiler but just in case) thé school he is attending goes on for 6 years, there IS a total of 12000 points to get throught those years, separated in 3 categories there IS the written "exam" worth 3600 point in total, thé practical "exam" (liké thé donjon exploration and Monster hunting for example) also worth 3600 pointsand there IS the magical "exam" (how well you are able to usime magic), worth 4200 point i believe. to graduate, you need 6000 points, and to gain Access to thé tower, you need 7200 points. I Hope this could help, pardon my grammar, i am french.

@Dukino the head of the school and some teachers already know his strength heck even the higher up magicians know his power

That's a good observation. Then why do you think they are keeping it a secret?

For his own safety, In the world he lives, magic is everything. He was bullied by his classmates and made jokes about him. Dwarves were discriminated against just because they don't have magic and fight with strength only.

(Spoiler ahead)

When he entered the upper academy, The head master of upper academy didn't want to make him a student there and just wanted to tear him apart and do experiment. That's the reason the magic teacher (forgot his name) was rude because he didn't want him to suffer like the people who can't be accepted by the fractions.

I get what you are saying but, He did have the support of some higher ups even a Maria vende(spelling wrong maybe) supported him. I am talking about his love interest ice girl. She even tried her best to recruit him in her ice fraction but sent a letter of recognition type thing but the head master of higher education didnt allow him to join the fraction and even some Maria vende didn't want a magic less person to climb the tower / be Maria vende.
He earned respect by thunder Maria vende by showing his ability (magic storage type) which he learned controlled with the help of head master of the magic academy. After that thunder guy liked him so much he fought with ice Maria vende to make him join his faction, at last a rock paper scissors game was hosted and the thunder guy won. Now the tinder guy does a friendly fight with him daily to be entertained.

@Chits_99 That sounded dumb to me too. He's in his last year. He even knows he's screwed, but has no plan. Instead, thanks to cheap writing, "conveniently" a racist dumbass barges in the tavern, fight happens and the guy "forces" will to participate in tournament. Something Will should've done anyways, but the author wants Will to go edgy-mode and join to enact revenge! I suppose Will will then be scouted by the 4 and allowed to advance despite low credits. How lucky and convenient! Such are my thoughts for now.

No, His lover wanted to scout him in her faction but the head master of upper academy didn't allow her to. And he doesn't win the tournament. Later he goes on a dungeon hunt with the top magic student which becomes his friend after some incident that takes place there. But also he doesn't pass the final exam because of the magic teacher who wanted to protect him by not allowing him to go to the upper academy.

He gets recognised due to a huge battle won with his help.

@deg Next season, however, he gains respect very quickly during the Dungeon raid arc, which is the next one after this tournament arc.

The problem is never about his strength, everyone knows he's strong as fk. That's why they try to drag him down because if he's allowed to do whatever he wants, he's gonna destroy their whole social structure.

@thunderkitten13 Come on, this show is badly written and hella contrived.

Will chooses, of his own accord, to go to a magic academy. Where he will likely be discriminated against for not being able to use magic. Where his self esteem will be challenged. Because he wants to fuck his childhood friend. That's his only reason. I don't think that deserves much sympathy. It's also not an aspiring story about an underdog challenging the big guys to show them that he can be as good as them. Because he simply will never be, he is competing on a completely different field than the rest of them. And if he were in a combat academy, he would be the ace, so everything is by his own choice.
@Sylverthas Problem is in that world, there is no combat academy. This world is like Mashle but serious. The MC also has normal mentality instead of being a full on autistic sociopath like Mashle.

@VMPL Was this explained in the show (or manga)? Can't remember.
Still, that would be another piece of a very contrived setup so that the world is bent around MC and his story. Sadly, this show tries to be taken seriously and the shoddy writing becomes more apparent. Instead of being a comedy (though an unfunny one) like Mashle, where stuff like this can be excused.

Don't u think the way plot is st*pid?? First let me clear one thing, i absolutely don't hate this anime at all. It is literally one of the best anime of this season. Good animation, good action, avarage story (not new only that's why). But plot kind of don't make sense. Like we all know will have super natural physical strength. He may be strongest in class. And still he couldn't earn anything till now. Like what the hell he was doing past 3 years(idk remember how many year his school or college has).like he is smart, i mean in study. he work pretty hard for exams so he does good in written exams. So only question is about magic, and the kind school he is in, im pretty sure that showing flashy magics couldn't be only way to earn credits, like there no way that show magic and earn points is only way. I m preety sure that there would be task based exams, or defeat certain monsters, finished something or like that. Like im sure that he could do just fine using his raw strength and skills. Like he was able to land one hit on the person who is called, close to magia vander. So still if noone knows about him than I think entire blame fall on him. Like u should have countless opportunity where he could make people acknowledge him and shine. Like he made 2 teacher and even principal to do that. So what was he doing all this past years.Like he made promise to become magia vander, and he still care about people's opinion and all. We are talking about becoming of king elites standing on the peak of world. There is no way u can do that with that kind of attitude. I mean story is way to close to mashle, but in mashle mash is ready go against anyone to achieve his dreams.thats the only way u have.buy as for will what he did all this past years and why still he has this kind of attitude. I mean he himself said u earn credit based on skills u display. So why he still have this mentality? I mean u can't become top with this kind of mentality, like one of most important events coming and he is thinking about what people will think about him.like what is he expecting, organised totally different tornament for people who don't have magic power or something? Again absolutely no hate for anime. But it just feel weird to have mc with kind of mentality and attitude for story like this.
They literally explain the credit system in details? How did you miss that and is now asking how does it work bruh? There's three catergory in which they earn credit. Magic, academics and then hunting monsters. Each have a cap of 5000 iirc and they need 12000 credit to pass. Will has reached max on academic 5000 and has a few hundred from the dungeon and is around 5600 ish iirc. The bigger badder monsters give credits in single digit so it's really hard to obtain credits from there. He wasn't just sitting idly for 3 years he was hunting and made a few hundred credits from there. But as he is unable to get any magic credential he'll never reach the requirement to pass. He did get some magic credits from the piece of shit proffessor after getting a hit on him though.

As for his mentality, he's been oppressed since birth for not having magic. Heck he even was used so that his love interest would come to the academy and that was the only reason they let him admit there in the first place. He'll grow as the anime progresses just like how we see him get angry in the latest episode.

The dungeon system doesn't make sense as of now. Will, who isn't that far off in terms of strength from their teacher (or would it then be revealed that he only used 1% of his strength? then why did he get so surprised that Will overthrown him and 10-point monster?), could barely kill a monster that gives a pathetic 10 points. I'd assume that it's much easier to just kill 10 monsters worth 1 point each. How the heck does anyone else earn credit in the Dungeon if it's so hard that even he struggles against relatively cheap monsters and that there aren't many of the weak ones? He needs to kill 500 of monsters from the first episode to reach 5000, it's impossible from what we were shown so far.
