API HELP! How can I get all anime released in a year?

Hello, I would like to grab all anime released in a certain year, or at the very least just the top 5 popular/highly rated one's. I've been using the Jikan API and it seems the only way to do this is using the season GET request, like winter, spring, summer, fall, etc. That seems really tedious and unnecessary, anyone have any better ideas?
