[Spoilers for the first half of Golden Wind, just in case]

Is it for the best that
Is there something I’m missing?

I’ve only recently watched this part and I’m an anime-only as of now, so I imagine this discussion has been had before but, like, come on. This is a pretty sharp turn for the story to take.

Idk the reason why araki wrote him out of the story but he comes back in a light novel

Araki wrote him out not cuz Purple Haze was too uncontrollable but because it was too strong and would have solved too many of their problems

yea I also considered that but like. why write it like that in the first place lol. at least add some sort of caveat so he can’t use it for every problem

the reason why Araki wrote Fugo out of the story is that he originally planned for Fugo to betray Giorno and the others, in his own words: like Judas betrayed Jesus. He planned for Fugo to be a traitor in Bucciarati's team, following orders from The Boss. But Araki was going through some depression at the time and felt like it was too much and decided to make him leave the group pacifically instead.

He said:"My state of mind was so dark that the stories I wrote were becoming more and more evil, but in my heart I was starting to hate this behavior as time passed. Also my heart just broke thinking about how Bucciarati would feel. I absolutely can't understand betrayal from a trusted friend and this is why just thinking about it physically hurt me. I would have accepted any criticism saying that I 'hadn't had the guts to do it' an author, but I assure you I couldn't write that episode no matter what.
Maybe Giorno would have had to kill Fugo then and I'm sure this would have given a really bad impression to my youngest readers"

It's truly a shame that we saw so little about Fugo in the Part, but that's how things are. But you can read the light novel Purple Haze Feedback.

there you can learn more about Fugo's story and what happens to him after the end of Part 5. Unfortunately, the light novel is not 100% canon, since it was not written by Araki himself. But he drew the illustration for the story and also contributed ideas to the plot. I highly recommend the light novel to any Jojo fan.

i thought he removed it cuz he was too lazy to draw all the holes on his shirt lmao.
Anyway, i would have liked to see more of fugo's stand, even if it was pretty uncontrollable, but it's just too cool. Also fugo was a pretty good character, I liked his backstory a lot

that’s actually really interesting! Thanks for sharing, this really goes to show how invested authors can get into their stories

Purple Haze is way too powerful and could have trivialized the challenges the group faces from that point onward. That said, there is a light novel called “Purple Haze Feedback” that is a scenario after that point in that story focusing on Fugo. It may get animated someday since Kishibe Rohan is Unmoveable was also animated.

I think Fugo is most underrated character in Part 5. I wish he doesn’t leave but it does. I’m sad.

This just isn’t true. He said himself that he planned on having Fugo betray the gang but went against it and had him leave by himself

Araki actually stated long ago that he literally forgot Fuggo. He focused on other characters and Fuggo did not charmed him.
Araki is well known for doing things like this (I.e., just change things mid way, forget characters, toss aside plot points, never tell the whole story, ignore character’s traits, and so on).
Fuggo was one of the victims. He stated that, when he realized that Fuggo was always on the side, he wrote him out when he had the chance because he did not like using Fuggo on the plot.

fugo was supposed to return to the story as an enemy and betray the group but giorno gains immunity against purple Haze's poison in the mirror man fight and he would have to defeat fugo, but at the time of the story araki was not doing well mentally and he didn't want to do the betrayal of fugo so he never returned to the story
