What is your opinion on the fantasy aspect throughout this whole story?

At first, I felt that the fantasy element in this story could be something unique, but after they resolved the issues with the Saimori family and introduced more fantasy elements into the plot, I couldn't enjoy the anime as much as before. And after watching the last episode, my only complaint is regarding the fantasy part.

The first half came in really strong so I think that didn't help the second half either. At this point I think the second half was just a smaller plot mostly for the purpose of opening to the door for later and better world building.

I like it, I think it plays a critical role in the story, worldbuilding, and the characters since it's correlated to so many different things.

In regards of the last episode, it may be seen as a little cliche but I thought it was a nice way to show how truly powerful Dream-Sight is.

Strong first half, not so good second half, i felt like second half was like any other shounen romance stuff where guy saving girl he loves and eveything was predictable and simple. But anime deserves over 8 mal rating for sure.

I (and what seems like the majority of people I see talking about it) feel the same way tbh, like the first half of the show was phenomenal but as soon as we got into the second half and started focusing so much on the supernatural abilities my opinion of the show drastically worsened. What hooked me on this show was watching Miyo's journey to not hate herself/to discover her self worth, but it really felt like they just sort of dropped it for the sake of "ouhhh wow her mother was actually the most powerful ever and Miyo is secretly super powerful too wooooow" then just made her powers solve her self worth issues instead

I mean I guess it's really a gripe with the source material (which I haven't read so, maybe it's better I have no idea) rather than the adaptation but, this really feels like it wanted to be and should have been a period drama (and I think it would've been much better that way) but they weren't confident that would sell well so they threw superpowers in to try and hook more people. I dunno maybe I'm way off base but that's just my two cents lmao

At first, i didn't mind it, but after episode 8, i think it was, it became too much and didn't focus on the relationship that much, it also felt like the ending was too rushed.

All of the problems she has had in her life are because of the superpowers and the political disputs between families to have them and surpass one another. In that sense, the supernatural part is a very integral part of the story? Could it have been a good story nonetheless without the superpowers? Probably.

I think it's a crucial part of the story and I completely disagree with people who says the series would be better off without it because the supernatural aspect is the metaphor and hyperbole for the more nuanced parts of the plot such as Miyo's inner growth, Kyouka's struggle, politcal affairs and how influential each family was at the time.

Not everything we watch or read needs to, or should, be taken at face value.

It's not horrible but pretty mid. Dropped the rating from 8 to 7/10 because of the fantasy element. Overall second half the show was weak compared to the really strong first half.

I didn't mind it but admittedly it could have been introduced a little better. Hinting at the magic in the world, something as simple as a over hearing conversation mentioning it, or seeing someone use magic, showing it's prominence.

Although in all honesty I found the magic system a little basic, maybe tying it to Japanese history in some way to make the lack of introduction to the system hurt less. I get that the magic is kind of just a side story to the main relationship, but it kind of feels phoned in for the dramatic ending to the first season.

TLDR - I like the system but I feel like it could have been left out, or better introduced.

Okay I'll admit here, I loved the symbolism with the cherry tree, I thought it was a masterpiece of a story ark that would have been worse with out the magic. I think for me disregarding the writing and voice acting and art (aka stripping it down to just how I feel about the themes) I kind of hated the ending it sorta made the main protagonist an all powerful god on the spot, I think we could have had a drawn out character ark there.

Admittedly I kind of like the curse idea, maybe not the cursed sleep idea, I could take or leave that. I think it forces a dramatic ending, but a really cheesey predictable one. I think if the main protagonist didn't get go's powers and instead it was a "anyone can save him, but they could die trying" might have been better, similar ending, different stakes.

I liked it as a background element and it was amazing even in episode 6. But I think it became too much especially in the second half of the show. I always thought this show would’ve been romance mostly and not action. I think I would have been a lot more satisfied if I saw Miyo getting the love she deserves on a happy date rather than fighting demons at the end
