I wish more people would appreciate this show, then we could more shows like this. Biao Ren would be better than even Jigokuraku if the studio took more time to develop the story and world more fully. It's obvious that there is so much more to this world and its characters, but it's held back by the breakneck pace of storytelling. I think Jigokuraku is still the best anime of the season, but this is a close 2nd!

That being said, Im definitely going to read the manga after the anime finishes!

as someone who also knows Chinese... I feel like some of the subtitles are not very accurate (although it's decent) because the amount of cultural references used in dialogues

Yeah I bet there is so much that is impossible to translate without the cultural knowledge. However, sometimes I really enjoy just getting the raw translation in shows like this. That way I can look up the metaphors they use, historical references, and other culture-specific details - it creates an opportunity to do research and learn something new!

I've learned so much about Japanese culture this way, just by watching shows that include all of the unique references, without worrying about whether or not the western audience will understand. As outsiders the onus is on us, to humbly enter another culture and watch with curious eyes and ears. I wish I could watch this show with someone who could explain all of the culture references to me (≧◡≦) that would be so much fun!

I’m liking it so far. Can’t seem to find a version where the subtitle translations are competent though (would be greatly appreciated if anyone knows any)

Well, Hell's Paradise isn't very good, so I agree this show is better (so far). I'm a few episodes behind, but the story and style are solid. Idk that this is a great show but it's been good.
