Mecha anime are people piloting robot mechs. Attack On Titan is people piloting biological titanic bodies. wondering if its possible to consider AoT a mecha anime.

People have jokingly called AoT a flesh mecha for years but never seriously considered it to be one. So I’ll stick with that: not a mecha but can resemble one

I see where you’re coming from, but personally I think no. Mecha is where they’re piloting robot bodies, but the titans are organic bodies

Definition of mecha if you google it says robot, so officially the answer is always no. But! Who cares? It’s a fun creative way to look at the show, and it doesn’t hurt anyone (unless… ig if someone into mechas is trying to find them and keeps getting AoT recommendations 🤣)

Since s1 came out like 10 years ago and there’s multiple titan shifters in that season, and it’s very well known that at least Eren has titan form… not really. Idk MAL’s spoiler rules but there’s no way this isn’t ok to leave untagged haha

mecha is like a subgenre that is mostly famous because of Gundam series which involves political conflict that is always the background for each entry.

aot does have political tension specially in the later half and you can say that each titan mc is a pilot. But is jusy parallels. Obviously Aot titans are not mechanical beings. Saying it's a mecha anine is doing a disservice in describing what genre and subgenres the anime/manga belongs to.

definitely channels some Mecha tropes. Eren's struggle with 'dont wanna enter the titan and go berserk' 'but I have to save everyone' is pretty much the same as Shinji's struggle with piloting his EVA.
Also I wouldn't fixate that much on bio or technical, Evangelion, which is undisputably mecha, has the bio-mechs too, just with some tech attached

Mecha means mechanical such as Macross, Full Metal Panic, etc.

So no.

I don’t consider Franxx, Evangelion and Gurren Lagann as mecha too. 86 and Fafner are debatable.

I'd be surprised if the author didn't take at least some inspiration from mecha titles. Apart from the giant robots there are other mecha tropes present in attack of titan.
