some highlights

As you concluded the series, are there any aspects of the story you wish you could have changed?

Isayama: So, I have a lot actually. Whenever I look back at the story that I wrote, I have so many things that I wish that I could have done differently. It’s almost hard to name exactly what that was. Every time I look back on my stories, I’m always thinking about you know—remorse and regret is what I feel from looking back on my own stories.

Then finally, to what extent did you draw from historical events when writing Attack on Titan and how did it influence you as a creator?

Isayama: I think where there’s a hint of truth, it makes a story very believable. So when I came up with the design of the world view—for example, the world view map, I kind of flipped it from the real-life world map to something similar, but different. People would be able to understand the context without explaining everything. For example, the Eldian and Marleyans. They’re really kind of similar to what the Germanic people and Romans went through 2,000 years ago. That’s kind of the unsaid rules that I keep in my stories.

To be honest this is the best anime/manga I've ever watched/read. I'm not sure what could even be improved tbh.
Same here bro. This the best fictional story I have ever read. (And trust me I am not even lying or exaggerating)

I believe by not being satisfied or improving certain stuff, he probably means to say about the rushed content in the last arc which could have been explored a bit more in detail and we could have had more chapters for more clarity. But I feel like he deliberately chose to end the manga at the 139th chapter due to some symbolism or any other important reason. And as an author, he will obviously have thoughts about where he could have executed certain scenes in a different way but then again that's completely natural.

And I have no problem tbh because all the rushed content will be fleshed out in the anime and the pacing will be fixed as well. Hayashi and the rest of the staff are gonna deliver surely.

I wish the voice of the people praising him would have been louder than the voice of the haters. Just because they want Eren to be with Mikasa or they want something else different that doesn’t mean that that would have been the better ending. A big part of the anime is showing us a cruel reality within the aot universe. That’s why it starts the way it does and that’s why we get to know characters just to see them die eventually. It’s the reality the surviving people have to face. And it’s the reality we readers have to face. Isayama connects his readers with the people inside, at least I see it that way. It’s something good authors do, they create parallels. Furthermore, the ending was hinted way back in the beginning and it would not have made sense for Isayama to suddenly create a happy ending. I like his work. It’s art. I‘m not disappointed at all. I wish he was more proud of it, he really can be!

And btw Erwin's infamous speech during the suicide charge also foreshadowed the ending.

This is so true and I am glad some people know about this. Like the ending was literally foreshadowed in the first chapter itself and yet you get to see claims like it came outta nowhere. And AoT wasn't even supposed to have a happy ending anyways. Idk why people assumed that? Like even if he had gone for a different one (hypothetically speaking) then also that wouldn't have been a happy one. The ending which we got literally fits the atmosphere and the setting of the AoT universe and I honestly don't see a better ending than this.

Probably the first time I am agreeing with a Jojo pfp (No offence btw).

And yeah I completely agree, just like you mentioned that Yams needs to give himself much more credit than he does and he should be proud that he created such a masterpiece of a series which also became a global hit and broke many records.

Of course it had to be a Mono pfp.

And that isn't even what he said there. You ending haters seem to have some age old habit of twisting the words of the author. He isn't even talking about right/wrong, he is only saying that he wishes he could have done some things differently or more like the execution could have been a bit different, which is completely normal for an author. Every author almost atleast once looks back at his works and regrets about the fact or realises that he could have done certain scenes/events differently irrespective of the public opinion. So I don't see what's the issue here? Like I get you dislike the ending, but atleast don't do all this bs.
And he is a programmed machine, right? who has no right to forget some stuff irrespective of the fact whether it's his own story or not, right? He isn't a human, right? And he never even messed up in the first place.

Not to mention he could always drop us some more content in the form of light novels (if it’s not already in the works 🙇🏾‍♂️💡👀) or canon movies. Idc if they’re not canon. They would still serve to help flesh out characters & world building or even help the audience get a slightly better understanding of the creators thoughts and intentions of the story as a whole. I really hope there’s more AoT content to come other than anime. 😭

Being self-critical is something all writers deal with. This is not reflective of the work's quality at all.

It has nothing to do with fav anime or personality. I just said that based on my previous experience of interacting with the/seeing Mono pfps with the most nonsensical claims and that's why I said that since I thought that you must be one of them. And it turns out maybe I was right.

Wow, so I am the one who was spewing dumbass bs and you lost brain cells after reading what I wrote, huh? And what bs did I exactly write?
I should be saying that for what bs you had written. Go and read again what nonsense you wrote yourself.

Well of course when people like you write such nonsense on purpose and with the clear and pretty obvious intention of mocking the author, then it's only natural that you are bound to be attacked/called out by someone or by some genuine fan.

Looks like you didn't get the point here. I wasn't calling out that Mono pfp or any ending haters in general (based on my previous experience of interacting with them) not because they dislike the ending, but because they do the most disgusting thing ever, which is twisting the words of the author and making fun of or mocking him unnecessarily for no reason.
I know not everyone does it and there might be some exceptions, but still many of them do this shit. Heck even these were the same people who had sent death threats to Yams and his editors and assistants after the manga ended. So I very well know what type of people they are.

The same reason for which I had quoted that Mono pfp and it was pretty obvious that he wrote all that shit on purpose. I have no issue with anyone disliking the ending nor do I care, but they should atleast respect the author and not trash talk about him, no matter how they feel about the series. That is just basic common sense. Like it's just a mere Japanese fictional comic and they make it loik like as if it's end of the world, just because they didn't get their preferred ending. Honestly pathetic if you ask me.

"when the criticism is valid, ending is bad get over it" 🤓🤓🤓 Lmao, you speak with such confidence and you are just casually presenting your subjective opinion as an objective one.

"Because I hate the ending, so everyone else should also do the same or the ending is supposed to be universally hated or everyone is entitled to hate it." It's been nearly 2yrs already since the manga ended. Just move on ffs. And this is not how it works dude. You also need to get over the fact that there are actual people out there who love the ending. The ending might be bad in your books and that's fine. Nobody is forcing you to like something you don't want to. You hate the ending, good for you but don't force your opinion on someone else just because you disagree with it.
