like a bolt from the blue its time 4 another thread view!!

Today’s thread I'm going to discuss, one of the earliest shojo stuff I got into right round when I started being active on mal.

I’ve already discussed bout Full Moon, but now I'm going to discuss her other works as well too, specially when I'm in a huge shojo mood as of late and we can certainly use more shojo up in here. Also you gotta love the cute art all of her works have as well too.

So without a further ado lets get right to my personal favz.
Phantom Thief Jeanne

So this one what interested me was from its thriller phantom thief like story with school and night time stuff a la persona 5 and also a shojo as well that and D.N Angel are the only ones I know that have that kind of story so far in a shojo. And yes it does have demons and god in it lol so theres a little something for the smt fans in here.
time stranger kyoko

This one is more future oriented since its set in the far 30th century. As well as focus on going through different areas of time.

Story focuses on a girl who just wanna have fun Kyoko who was now, has to find 12 telepaths who are able to use god stones to wake up her twin sister so that Kyoko don’t have to worry bout boring ass royality shit.

Yeah she does grow to be a sweetheart as time goes by during her journey so don’t worry, if she’s going to be a selfish dumbass thot the whole story rofl.
I.O.N

This story focuses on psychic powers and also a dash of romance,it focuses on research into psychic powers and I.O.N’s jinxes (By spelling out her name for good luck to happen to her) with psychics and her love triangle. It’s a pretty cute read.

Storywise it was inspired by Arina watching a science program airing on nhk and ION’s last name in Japanese kanji also means particle and it’s a pretty fitting thing I think.

Overall though I found these to be very fun interesting reads some of these I mentioned have adaptations but..... its short as the average attention span of a goldfish and cultist on tik-tok or twitter as well and please composer keep these people on full quarantined for all of eternity.

And I like her works and I would like to really do own physical copies of her stories someday.

What about you guys, do you enjoy her works and if so, which is your favorite?

Enjoy the thread!

I've only read the manga that were made into anime. Jeanne is the better of the 2. None of the anime are good.

Yeah ngl, the anime for like Time Stranger Kyoko and Phantom Thief honestly if it was full adaptation it could have been better had they had full adaptations. Full Moon is cute but still a full reboot would have been awesome imo.

her manga design is very difficult to transfer to TV even in the HD era.
I did not like any of the Anime adaptations as much.
Jeanne remains a favourite back when I read it in the 2000s but I hate the Anime version.
Also liked the Gentlemen Alliance Cross which is one of the better manga in its genre.
Did not read any of her newer works ever since.

I am still relatively new to her work, but my favorite Arina Tanemura work is Full Moon wo Sagashite.

I do like Time Stranger Kyoko (even if it was clearly rushed) and Mistress Fortune, but I think Full Moon is just very touching, memorable, beautifully drawn, and well... I just can't find much else quite like it. I did see this thread sooner and wanted to post at first, but I had originally planned to wait even later than now since I wanted to finish reading Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne and maybe even try collecting it and Sakura-hime: The Legend of Princess Sakura before doing so. I even just somehow found all of Gentlemen's Alliance Cross (which I haven't read very much of admittedly), so it probably would have made more sense to wait... but something tells me that I still will find Full Moon to be the best of Tanemura's work. We seriously need a remake for it if possible. Tanemura even admits it's difficult to replicate her artwork, especially in a simpler cel-shaded form; but as much as I like the 2002 anime and its insert songs, it just doesn't have that extra something that I felt the original manga had, especially later on with its unadapted territory.

I hope Tanemura continues making magical girl manga in any case. There's something very infectiously enjoyable about her series ✩

@Fario-P I got into her works, through you and after seeing Full Moon and going through your list seeing what else she worked on, thats when i started getting more into her works as well as Shojo too.

I hadn't read gentlemen's alliance cross yet but i do want to get around to reading it when my backlog of stuff goes down. There is also Arina No Tane thats like an autobiography of her time as a mangaka as well you may wanna check out.

And yeah we totes, need more of her stuff fully adapted and rebooted as well as more of her creating shojo up in here.

I'll probably start reading it soon before you, so if I do, I'll let you know if it's any good!
I dunno if I want all off Tanemura's stuff adapted necessarily, but her general works are pretty good and more shoujo would be great anyway.

Full Moon wo Sagashite, watched the anime and read its manga loved both although I think that the anime was slightly better than the manga in terms of story.

A few months later and i've read Sakura and Gentlemen's Alliance Cross and both were pretty decent reads i had a good time reading. And yes, do finish off on phantom thief Jeanne since you seem to be curious about SMT/Persona then it will be something right up your alley.

I found Arina No Tane on mangaklot but not the full scans of it sadly just up to chapter 1-4.

And, https://myanimelist.net/manga/26845/Fuudanjuku_Monogatari i think you may wanna give this a go sometime.

Character designs for Idolish7 are really great, and I recently learned about Sakura-hime so I think that'll be the first of her actual manga that I end up reading.
