| I'll start with an "anime-adjacent" subject, Pokémon. I'm a relative latecomer to the whole franchise, having started playing the games only a few years ago. I enjoyed Sword & Shield OK (didn't understand the online rants about the tree texture resolution, etc), but Legends:Arceus was next-level for me. I LOVED that game. The mechanics feel so natural compared to the earlier games in the series. Did they use Breath of the Wild's engine to underpin the game? Yep! Was that a great decision? Also yep! I finally 100%ed it last week, just in time for Scarlet and Violet to be released in a month or so, and.......I'm not excited at all. It looks like they disregarded everything that folks loved about L:A and just went backward. It just looks like a kids' game. I mean, I guess that's technically what it is, but L:A transcended the genre. Hopefully they'll release a companion game to S&V that's in the same style as L:A. "Oldify" one of the other regions. Here's hoping... |

| It's never late for anyone. A series or game might have come out decades ago but if it's your first time seeing it, it is technically new to you. There are plenty of things I wish to watch or play that came out a while back. Playing catch up to keep with current releases is going to be a challenge though when you're pressed for time. |

Well, I'd like to think my lack of history with the franchise allows me to review it more objectively as a game, and L:A is just a better game, IMO, than the standard Pokémon entries. It's disappointing that they're returning to inferior game mechanics, but you can't please everyone and I guess the longtime franchise fans (a.k.a. the ones most allied to "the way it's always been done") vote the loudest with their wallets. And their internet followings. |

| Finally took the plunge and created an account. Had to add a hyphen to the handle I used on the CR forums because SOMEHOW there's already a "galaxycrisis" here! So what movies are you planning on seeing in the future? I'm going to see Black Adam next week. |

Not to make light of your handle or anything, but I'm not that surprised it was taken. I mean, "The galaxy's in crisis!" isn't exactly an uncommon anime plot point. ;) Black Adam looks pretty cool. I'm kind of ashamed to admit my non-anime media consumption is so low that I don't even know what movies are coming up. I actually had to muscle my way through the 2nd book; his prose is so obtuse sometimes... The 3rd one picks up a little more action, which helps. Anybody reading anything they'd recommend? |

I know it's mainstream now & all, but I am currently on volume 16 of the Re:ZeRo (as per the cover titling) light novel series - main one, and I have really been getting so much out of it after having seen the anime seasons put out so far. Especially the second season, as I really get so much more of the story by reading all the details after watching, rather than before. The parts with Subaru and Beatrice in volumes 15 & 16 shine so much after having only some of it shown topically on screen, -for me anyway. As a note, I never picked up any of the LNs during the years of the 1st anime season versions, so maybe that also made it more enjoyable to go back that way then for me as well, but in any case, it's a series that really makes me happy to have tried the novelizations. |

It's nice when the source material (or cross-media material adapted after the anime's run) fleshes out the storyline and characters. I'm working on the LN series for 86, and I've appreciated the additional context, though I still prefer the anime. |
