Did anybody else thought that the pacing was very fast? Like, the characters were barely shown, and already went to the main idea.

Is this because the producers already expect you to watch the first version before this?

Not seen the episode yet. But i heard they only adapted 2 chapters which should be same pace as original (original was 1&3 while this was 1&5 ?)

Anyways isn't it better if last 4 ommited volume content makes the cut in this adaptation? After all there is only 46 episode for 366 chapters

No? Pace was fine for me, this episode only adapted chapter 1 & 5, and chapter 1 is half the lenght of the first chapters nowadays

From what I’ve heard they kept the originals pacing, but yeah I agree that it was very fast. I can’t help but wish we were given just a little more time to sit with the characters. Still though, I’m looking forward to next weeks episode:)

I think they do. The original is very slow and it also gives some of the annoying side characters unnecessarily long screen time which drags out the show. Hope they only focus on Ataru and his misadventures.

Pace was fine for me. It's the same pacing as in the original, but the second part was from a different manga chapter than in the original episode.
I guess it's the modern editing with the different angles which makes the pacing look fast, but from a narrative standpoint, it's your typical early urusei yatsura episode.

I watched the 1981 episode 1 just after and the pacing there was just as fast. It's just chaotic fun

Well ofc. it's going to feel rushed, they're trying adapt a 366 chapter long series into < 50 episodes. Even if they wanted to cut out some fluff the whole project should have been at least a 12 core series.

Depends on what u mean by complete adaptation. They are gone adapt somewhere around 100 selected chapters out of 366 most probably. Which chapter those are we don't know yet? It is possible it's just early 100 chapter or it's even possible they pick chapters from here and there (no info about that, we have to wait and see). But Even the original anime adapted chapter from here and there too

They are most likely just going to leave the story incomplete and move to next project, they did that with Captain tsubada.

and why a requirement that even Rumiko herself wanted because they will Ruchar a little this Beginning because they say that it is very boring for those who were Fan and then after this boring beginning they will start adapt the arcs that people liked the most from the manga this first half will be just introduce the characters and then go to the best arcs in the manga

Wow, I've never seen the original but watching this, I was expecting the game of tag to have taken two full episodes, not half an episode. That's crazy.

Three episodes. You forgot the flashback sequence that took up half of the second episode.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

Eh?

Like I said, I've never seen the original. I just had the feeling that they crammed like 3 full original episodes worth of material (2 for tag, 1 for the rest) into this first episode, and turns out I'm wrong.

Or did I misunderstand your response to me?

It was a joke, I thought we were making fun of battle shounen for dragging shit out.

If you watched the 80's version, the remake is actually slow. The first episode in the 80's finished the game/marriage proposal by the halfway commerical break. Making it take an entire episode in the remake is actually dragging it out lol.

It's because these stories are like one chapter, one shots, this episode had two chapters and the show in the 80s mixed episodes like this with slower paced ones that only adapted one chapter or was completely anime original, I'm not sure what this new anime is gonna do but don't think it's because they are deliberately speeding up the story, Urusei Yatsura is just like this

As someone who hasn't seen the original or read the manga, and is new to the series, the first half of the episode was very fast... but I assume that's only because it was covering the first chapter, which is generally a bit longer than the average chapter. However the pacing in the second half is fine, so as long as later episodes have pacing similar to the second half of episode 1, it should be fine.

I don't feel like I'm missing anything and can easily understand what's going on and know who the characters are at any given time, and that's the most important thing with a remake.

So overall, I think episode 1's slightly weird pacing wasn't a huge issue.

thats why the original lasted 194 episodes because it was dead ass slow, happy that the 2022 remake is a bit faster pacing.. I hope they make more then 50 episodes but Im just happy that this got a revival!!! been 20 years since I watched original so Im just excited to see the nostalgia

I felt the face pace was what made the episode so much fun. The og doesn't move as fast to be fair but I think that this style matches it's pace so well, also got to know that things happen quickly and people jumping to conclusions and just making split dumb decisions is part of the fun, it's classic over the top comedy.

If fast pacing is not your thing that's fine, but I don't think one needs to argue that this is wrong to have for a comedy sci-fi.

I've never read the manga nor seen the original series. I didn't have any particular issue with the pacing of the first episode, and I more than enjoyed it. That being said, it certainly doesn't seem like something that would have a deep plot anyway. If I end up caring enough about the characters and lore then I'll probably just check out the original or the manga anyway. This seems like it's doing a good job of pulling in a new audience as is.

Remake has only 46 episodes and it's supposed to be a "best of" type series that collects some highlights from the manga, rather than the entire thing. This was inevitable.
