So, I was wondering the other day, like what will happen if we write someone's name in death note. But his natural/actual death was supposed to be sooner than that.
For example if someone's going to die tomorrow afternoon. It's his age/number appearing on him (lets just assume we know that info.). But if we wrote in Death Note that he'll die day after tomorrow. So will he die his natural death (according to number appearing on him) or will he die beacuse of his name written on Death Note.
I would like to know your opinions/answers.
Thank you.

Fairly interesting question actually. I'm not mistaken, the Death Note has a rule that you can only control someone for a set amount of time prior to their death, so I'd imagine it has control over the world around that person for that period. After all, if you can cause Final Destination-esque accidents to kill someone, it should also have the power to prevent actual ones. So, I'd imagine that no, if someone was going to die tomorrow, but you wrote for them to die afterward, whilst still being in the time limit, they should die at the later date.
Well I for one already loved Lain.

Here's a better question, In the episode that L and Light are chasing the corporation Kira, He trades half his life for the eyes then dies by light's note. So if he hadn't traded for the eyes would he have lived twice as long and not be killed by Light or was it already unavoidable.

Yes, it can. But not in the way you all mentioned. It can (and already) prolong the life of Misa, when she receives the leftover life that Jealous (the original owner of her Death Note) because he kills the one who supposed to kill her. That means Misa is supposed to have at least tens or hundred of years left (assuming Jealous write a bunch of names in haste before he dies so his life would get to her at most amount possible) that she use to cut to 1/4 because she trade for the eyes twice.

To kill the one who would end your life is the only way to prolong life with Death Note. Other way like writing the time of death after the fated death wont work (i think its included in one of the "How to use" section of the tankoubon manga. Its an extended "How to use" section of the Death note as a bonus of the manga version that appear in every beginning of the new chapter).

His name was Higuchi. And I've been wondering about that as well. When they use the term "lifespan" in this series, are they referring to how long a person would live if left alone, or do they account for murder?

I think it counts murder because of the shinigami that died protecting misa from the stalker (the one that rem took the note from).
