I’ll recommend you the shows that I’ve watched after finishing Another and found their atmosphere somewhat similar to this show.

The closest one is Shiki (there is also a light novel, though I haven’t read it yet). I love first opening from this show, it just so good and suits the show so well. I liked characters and dark atmosphere in this anime.

I’d also recommend Darker than black, it’s not that close, but there are some similarities in those the shows.

Next one is Serial experiments Lain, the opening is fire. It may be sometimes boring to watch this show, but generally it’s a good anime with interesting plot.

Worth mentioning Sonny boy, which has imo perfect and in some way depressing ending. Two songs from this anime were also added to my playlist.

You can try reading Classroom of the elite light novels, they are completely different from Another, but they are sure a good thing to read, with exciting plot and some decent character development.

And my final recommendation will be one of my favorite light novels - Pain, Pain, Go Away by Sugaru Miaki. It has everything you’ll need: blood, murders, revenge, romantic line, dark atmosphere, unexpected plot twists and some deeper meaning behind all of that too.
If you like it, than you can also try reading any other book by Sugaru Miaki like for example Three days of happiness, Parasite in love or The place you/I called from. Enjoy!

• Higurashi no naku koro ni: (personally, it’s my fav show)
it’s kinda complex, it’s a mysterious and unsettling show, also violent at times. There are more season and a new version that is NOT a remake, but a different story.

• Happy sugar Life: a Yandere surrounded by messed up people, it’s creepy and different, it’s psychopathic and morally wrong

• Elfen Lied: it’s very violent and it’s a lot of fun if you like that kind of violence.
