One piece is my favorite anime so I say this just because I wanna see this show at its best. One piece has been adapting less then 1 chapter every episode which is absolutely ridiculous to me. If it just adapted at least 1 a episode that would be fine and wouldn’t catch up to the manga. My only theory for them doing this is that they are gonna adapt a lot more each episode once the big fights start because they did something similar with making WCI pacing really bad but then adapting more for wano act 1. Hopefully they fix this quick.

The pacing is bad so they don’t catch up to the manga, it’s either keep slow pacing but manga canon episodes, fast pacing for manga episode but probably gonna have to do some filler arcs while we wait for more chapters, or make it seasonal which would solve a lot of the problems but probably would lose them money

It’s really only because toei doesn’t want to catch up to the manga and they don’t want to do fillers. Fillers would let them animate more chapter content per canon episode but like I said it seems like toei doesn’t want to do them. I recommend just switching to the manga sense the pacing is totally fine in it

the pacing is bad because toei doesn’t want to do fillers bc less people watch them so they’re forced to stretch the episode so they also don’t catch up to the manga

One piece pacing is not bad. One piece pacing is terrible and makes anime boring. I even stopped counting episodes since luffy started climbing to the roof. I mean when the fuck is he gonna fight kaido. I think it should be before next Christmas but I am not sure.

Mainly because that’s how TOEI likes to animate long series. They add in a ton of fluff material. Alabasta, Skypiea, Thriller Bark, Whole Cake Island, Fishman Island, and Punk Hazard has awful pacing. I stopped watching the wano arc at ep 915 because the pacing is so booty. I’m just gonna wait until the arc is over and speed watch the important parts.

EDIT:
I’ve heard many a times people say: “Well One Piece has the lowest percentage of fillers ever!!”.
Well of course when half the main canon episodes feel like filler with all the wasted time on irrelevant scenes. Those are filler to me because they add nothing, except exercise for my finger to hit the skip ~15 second button again and again.

Because it requires you to be patient. Otherwise you can choose a different story

They would catch up if they did a chapter per episode since the manga takes more breaks, but that's not really the only issue here.

Y'all better watch this video, especially those of you blaming Toei.

They wanted to keep the series continuously ongoing for decades with less fillers I guess so slow pacing is the only solution for that

Because they're greedy as hell and don't want to make longer filler arcs to bide time because they know that diehard One Piece fans won't want to watch filler arcs. You'd think that with merchandise sales being consistently high they'd already be satisfied with the amount of revenue that the franchise makes per year, but I guess not.

the reason why the pacing is like that because they don’t want to catch up with the manga. and oda only makes about 30 chapters a year. even if toei adapted 1 chapter an episode they would catch up in no time.
instead of crying over pacing just enjoy the show tbh. pretty sure the pacing will stay like this until the end.

Ok, the pacing can be done fixed in the later fights because in the manga everything is going on at light speed and I would like to see the fights more fleshed out rather than elongated slow motion scenes in the fights and I believe that if they do something like one piece kai thing it would be the definitive way to experience one piece but it won't probably happen so we have to be with this, I don't think the anime is bad far from it I prefer the anime over the manga since the things are going so fast in onigashima the anime for me is doing a better job showing it to us till now atleast.

It's hard for some people to enjoy a series that's supposed to be about pirates but feels more like an anime about marathon running.

Honestly what annoys me more than the pacing itself is the fact that Toei can't come up with good filler material to put into the episodes 90% of the time. They've extended some fights in the past, but it's usually done with subpar animation and/or they don't expand on the fights for more than a minute or two. If they actually had competent writers to write the filler scenes they might actually come up with something interesting that doesn't feel like a chore to sit through.

i’m currently rewatching it from the beginning because i forgot most of the early stuff and i don’t really see it as a marathon run. i just watch a handfull episodes a day and that’s it i’ll be catching up eventually but i am down enjoying the journey. that’s kind of the mentality you need to have to watch one piece in my opinion. instead of forcing yourself to catch up as quickly as you can just watch at your own pace and enjoy the journey.

That was a really great watch, even though I figured that this was exactly how it was behind the scenes with the sponsors and producers having to all be on the same terms it’s good to have a video explaining everything in detail. I work in film so I already knew a lot about how stuff behind the scenes generally are but of course it works differently in japan to Canada and even more so with a long running series.

Well, the animation got better, in Fisherman Island and Punk Hazard was pretty bad. The pacing I believe that is not going to get better, the anime is so close to the manga, and seeing how Toei operates, I highly doubt they are going to change. But, we never know, I thought the animation was a lost cause and here we are now. I nowadays watch just the major scenes and fights tbh.

it's cause the anime is only 1 chapter per episode while most other anime are 2-3 chapters per episode

It depends on studio.like in Naruto and bleach the studio rather than having the pacing slow they added fillers.which is good in my opinion but one piece which is being animated by toei they made the pacing slow.the studios do these thing to get the canon part done in a good way like the animation thing the direction thing and all.But at the end the pacing and all doesn't matters when you catch up to a series you will like it based on its story material.
