I like Index s1 s2, and Railgun T. The rest of the seasons are meh to me.
Railgun s1 and s2 are pretty dull minus the recap from Index seasons.
Index s3 is a train wreck.
Accelerator is ok, but his edge makes him hard to like.
I love the world. I think all the powers and everything are really cool. The Touma worship got tiring, though. I dropped Index in the first half of season 2, and Railgun in the first half of T.
I liked index s1 and 2 and railgun s2 (only thee sisters arc of 15 episodes rest 9 episodes were just as boring as s1)
I didn't like season 1 of railgun
Railgun is the way to go. Its far better then index. Though index is good in its own way. Im still on season 3 of index. I cant wait for another railgun series
I love the characters and the world setting in this anime the most.
Yeah it seems to be underwatched but its not bad, it was one of my first animes so it has a special place in my heart.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.
Railgun fires on all cylinders while index seems to sputter the further it goes. It’s probably the larger scope of the world but it just feels so disjointed and rushed to me.
Index S2 is one of my top Anime. I love Index. Railgun is really good too. I'm super disappointed in how they treated season 3 of Index after all that time we waited for it. Railgun has always had solid adaptations it's not fair. People mainly like Railgun over Index for Mikoto. I like Index ober Railgun because it's more action and less slice of life.
I do like Railgun and I also enjoyed the Accelerator series. But I don't really like Index. The characters are less enjoyable (except Misaka and Accelerator). I exspecially think that Touma is pretty boring.
And it always feels like that there are like 5 arcs in 10 episodes which I also don't like. But I have only watched the first season of Index so far.
Those who say that the LN is better, I believe you, but I still don't like the anime.
Index I ain't bad, but it really lacks oomph - while it doesn't make any attempts to do something more than a passable LN adaptation, it also cuts important and interesting stuff.
Index II is actually better than Railgun and last one-third of Railgun S. Interestingly, it's a decent adaptation of some of the weakest Index arcs but ends just where the Index LN starts becoming awesome (ACI arc). It also has no defined climax (so that works against it) and cut content still hurt.
Index III kinda destroys the Index anime adaptation as a whole as it ruins the best arcs. I am not even hyped for a NT adaptation now because the world-building, character development and many other things that smoothly flows to NT is freaking annihilated.
One of the biggest flaws of Index anime is making Touma look like a generic MC. You don't have to even adapt all the inner monologues, you can get at least his portrayal on point! Even Railgun knows how to portray this character right. They failed giving an insight to his childhood misery - the type of past that actually anime villains have. He's a force to be reckoned with, a freak of nature, a gender equality enforcer - the gigachad TouMan. For someone who's from as early as 2004 LN, he's iconic and loved by the novel readers. The overusage of Index as the (annoying) mascot doesn't help, and she brings down the show. The magic side is just half-heartedly portrayed, and the intricate power system Kamachi has built goes to the toilet.
Let's move to the manga sauced series (mostly) unburdened by adaptational toughness...
Railgun (season 1) is truthfully, just above decent. The filler SoL elements are so dreary and uninspired, it becomes extremely un-rewatchable. OT11 of Index shows how one should execute SoL in the world of Toaru. The sins of changing Misaka's character curve, including a ghost Kongou, focussing on the perverted side of Kuroko - they are permanent impairments to this series. At least BS arc is an example of a smart filler arc.
This is what happens when you extend a 10 ep content (at most) to 24 episodes. Cheeky Nagai will do Nagai things.
Railgun S hits the deck of giving justice to a Toaru arc. And then shoots itself in the foot by making the travesty that is SP.
This just meant that chapters 1-41 of the Railgun manga are quite the better experience compared to Railgun and Railgun S.
Railgun T finally reaches the desired levels of a completely good Toaru adaptation, except for Kongou (who's an accumulated damage from previous seasons). The DF arc is awesome, and I like it even more than the Index LN version. This arc and the one to follow will show why Railgun and Index are so intertwined and it's stupid to watch/read only one. Unless you are that desperate and wiki pages are your savior. But then again, you have to know what to look for.
Accelerator anime is peak mid. But blame the source. I think the anime did a pretty good job of preventing people from reading the manga.
So I won't have much confidence in passionately recommending Index anime to people. Index III still is the main issue because people can still manage to salvage the cut content from first two seasons without reading the LN. Though that won't be enough for the optimum Indexperience.
Now I am watching 86 and wondering where were people (the director and his team) like this back in 2008.
