Ideally, you start with Index (at least the first season) then move to Railgun, but there are people who've just watched Railgun and that's been fine too.

Technically you start with Index. Given that it’s the main storyline.
However, if you only want to watch Railgun, you can also do this, since it’s a Spin-off with Misaka Mikoto’s POV.

Railgun is more enjoyable honestly. I watched two seasons of index and I was not having it.

or you start with index 1 and then follow the same order

the tradeoff is starting with railgun will add a dramatic and suspenseful buildup to one of the best arcs, but you wont understand the ending completely until later. starting with index will cause you to fully understand the ending, but the buildup wont be as dramatic as you already know how it ends.

also railgun t technically fits in before index 3, but reveals a piece of information thats relatively important in index 3s biggest arc. index 3 keeps it vague up until the reveal to add suspense, but in railgun t that “thing” is shown in detail.

also endymions not necessary, but it is canon and i recommend it. it falls between index 1 and 2, so you can watch it before or after accelerator.

ideally youd watch index 1-6 (iirc, maybe 1-9) and then railgun, but jumping is too much effort. even better, read the lns

if you are going to jump shows youre gonna notice jumps in quality and at that point just read the lns.

Watch it in this order, I did and it felt like a better watch experience and it helped me understand the world and how everything worked better than starting with Index.
