Isn’t Somas liking each other incest how closely related are they?

I’m on episode 10 right now and I’m confused isn’t this like incest (ex Kagura like Kyo and Haru liking Yuki) is anyone able to explain this to me?

the sohmas are like a clan so basically they aren't blood-related but have lived together for a long time (like a small community)

yes, all the zodiacs are somas. as mentioned in the anime, only a select few of the somas actually know about the zodiac curse. when someone from the soma clan falls in love with someone out of the somas, they could have a zodiac child. this means that there probably wasn't any in-breeding and def no incest. hope that is clear haha

It's not just a clan it is a family but a big one (distante cousins), I know It's not common for some to marry into the same family but it is common elsewhere and It's not incest as long as there distante enough I think (even with the same family name)

this has always confused me lol, i thought they were all siblings or cousins, but it makes much more sense for them to be a sort of clan.

It’s a big clan with probably thousands of members, some of them are closely related but most of them might be very very distantly related, like 7th grade cousins, so it doesn’t count as incest at that point.

They're not that closely related. Most aren't related by blood at all. They form essentially a clan. "Family" doesn't necessarily mean nuclear family. The Sohmas are called a family because they share a name and a household.

even though they are both in the soma clan, they are veeeery loosely related because the soma clan is ginormous. They would probably be something like 6th cousins with how big the clan is.

Wow, how many times have I seen this already and have to say that they are a clan of around a 100 people, they are not blood related, obviously Yuki and Ayame are blood related, but the other aren't. SO IT IS NOT INCEST!!! 🙄

I’m almost done now but the reason I asked is because where I’m from that’s extremely freaking weird even for a show about people turning into animals and a girl with evil waves. This post just helped me to keep watching.

I think I read a wiki somewhere, some are loosely related or related or something, but most are not blood related at all & just grew up around eachother (bc of zodiac ties)

Much like how Mikasa Ackerman-Levi Ackerman or Sasuke Uchiha-Obito Uchiha are from the same clan but not blood related.

Aren’t Mikasa and Levi more closely related than the Soma’s though? Pretty sure it’s to do with blood relation or something, but there’s a specific reason as to why Mikasa and Levi are so strong. Surely them being from the same clan and distantly related would dilute their strength if it’s to do with blood or something (that sounds so stupid but i hope it makes sense)

I'm pretty sure a lot of them aren't related, especially considering Momiji was essentially sold to them, and it appears that his family was not related at all to the Somas.

I would guess Soma is more of a tribe name that you take as your last name when you join, so it's possible others such as Rin and Kagura aren't related either

from what I can gather from watching the anime, the only ones who seem to be confirmed to have been in the clan previously were:

Ritsu, as his mother keeps up the Soma's hot springs

Kyo, as his mother clearly felt shame from his birth which would imply her being in that family for a while

(and that's it, idk why I made this list. Basically everyone else could have just been bought into the family after the zodiac was born)
