I've heard it's a faithful adaptation for the most part, if you want more FB content then I'd say read the manga but if not then I wouldn't say it's needed.

If you like what you see in the anime, you can read the manga that follows it.

Well Fruits Basket 1998 is the original Manga on which the Anime (both the 2001 and the current Version) is based on , Fruits Basket Another is a "Sequel" which features the kids from Tohru and Kyou afaik . Also the Manga is pretty old and the Artstyle can be kinda meh, if that doesnt bother you , youre in for a good read

read the manga if you're going to watch the version before the reboot.

i've only ever seen a few episodes of both fruits basket series, and i think that you should read the manga if you are planning on watching the older series, but if you aren't planning on doing that, you should just read the manga if you love the series a whole bunch.

As om3g466 commented earlier, Fruits Basket, released in 1998, is the manga on which the current anime is based, and I believe the content is the same as the anime story.

Fruits Basket Another" is a sequel to "Fruits Basket" and is about the children of the main characters and supporting characters from "Fruits Basket".

So, I guess the main difference is that the main characters and supporting characters are different.

If you want to read the manga while reviewing the anime, I think you should start with Fruits Basket, and if you are satisfied enough with the anime, you should read Fruits Basket Another without reading the Fruits Basket manga.
