I have completed the s2 pt2 but i still can't y understand.. why was roswal attacking the mansion and why was he "testing Subaru" or something like that?

In simple terms, he wanted to force Subaru to make a difficult decision between who will be sacrificed and who is kept alive. This would lead to it making it easier for Subaru to sacrifice others to proceed forward which is what Roswaal desires. Roswaal believes this mentality is the only acceptable one in his mind and would serve to help him for his future goals (at the moment we know about killing the dragon as mentioned in S1 and reviving Echidna as mentioned in S2). Something to note is that this plan all resulted from his copy of the Tome of Wisdom, which has been dictating his actions since possibly the first arc of the series.
