Secondarily, I rate anime by their technical feats. - Shows I've rated a 4 or below did not resonate with me emotionally, so I rate them on a technical basis. - If I rate a show under a 5, I do not believe that it's good. - The lowest I'll rate a show in acknowledgment of its technical feats is a 5, despite me having no emotional attachment to it. - I place heavy emphasis on how complex the relationships are between characters and how much development characters receive. - If a character or characters receive no notable development, do they behave in accordance with their established persona? If not, I will deduct points. - If a show is needlessly complex and/or confusing, I may deduct points. - I deduct points if I find an anime's cast to be lackluster. - I typically deduct points for deus ex machinas. - I deduct points if I find there to be contrived plot devices, with little to no explanation. - I place heavy emphasis on how effectively an anime's cast is utilized. - I deduct points for the use of fanservice that hamper the flow of the show. - I deduct points if there's an excessive amount of filler. - I'm harsher on OVAs, movies, and specials because of their limited runtime. - I will deduct points for poor pacing and rushed endings. - I place heavy emphasis on whether a show has an appropriate atmosphere. - I do not round-up (i.e. 4.5 to a 5). - I may rate an anime lower if my memory of it is hazy. - I deduct points for mediocrity and if said installment is cliche unless done properly (EX. Demon Slayer). -I will be harsher on anime I lack emotional attachment towards. - I don't put much emphasis on art, enjoyment, and sound. |
| I never thought that I'd enjoy this series, I'm not a big fan of shounen but boy was I surprised; this shit is entertaining. An action-packed battle shounen based on curses? Say less, I will check it out. Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the biggest hits this fall and might very well be the biggest hit to come out of 2020, a rather lackluster year. But does the show really live up to its hype? ----------- The story starts off rather cliche, the characters are stereotyped and not very well written, but here's the thing; Jujutsu Kaisen doesn't try to be something it's not. It's an action-packed, comedic, and enthralling series, it knows it's a generic shounen anime and doesn't try to build a facade around that. You have Itadori Yuji, who's a love-able character, you got the OP teacher, and that one...strong girl. The characters aren't fully realized, yet you're glad they're there. They're diverse, funny Character development is ongoing, there's not much to point out here and there. There's no reason for us to get attached to the characters yet, the show has merely started The animation is simply fantastic, I expect nothing less from MAPPA. Fights are beautifully choreographed and there's no sign of slack. The color palette is perfect, it can change shift from a lighter-tone during more comedic and light-hearted scenes to a darker palette during battle sequences. I'm enjoying this series so far, there's not much to critique. It's not the most in-depth or thought-provoking anime and is a bit shallow but as I said, it doesn't pretend to be something it's not. That's why I'll recommend Jujutsu Kaisen to many, it's simply an all-around entertaining show. It's funny, it's action-packed, it's beautifully animated, entertaining and the OP & ED are simply bangers. Jujutsu Kaisen might as well be the biggest hit this year! It definitely appeals to many, it's fun, it's stunning, and it's enthralling; but it's not great or bad, and definitely shouldn't be considered the best anime ever made. |

| To start off, I'm an anime fan who isn't too much well-versed or vastly experienced as an anime watcher, but despite that, I'm someone who is really passionate & engrossed when it comes to anime in general, which is why despite my somewhat lack of experience I still consider myself to be a weeb. I've mostly gotten into mainstream anime since late 2018, from when I gradually started picking one interest after another in anime, leading to my interests peaking in this medium. I'm currently looking to just explore the huge world of anime even more and more, because I've discovered it well enough that watching anime is one of those things that brings me the most joy. |
