Haikyuu to the top s1 was basically Karasuno training and the beginning of the nationals so it wasn't the most important arc so the animators could cut corners and get at away with it. Season 2 coming out with the big match against Inarizaki, would the animation have a higher budget and return to the regular art style before in the first 3 seasons or continue sticking with the animation style from last season?

P.S
I don't hate the new art style but the original art style was a lot more captivating and compelling to watch.

It will have amazing animation like episode 12 but art style will stay faithful to manga.

I hope the animation is at least as good as Season 2 if not Season 3.

I really don't get these complaints.

The artstyle in the original 2 seasons of Haikyuu never matched up with the manga and always made everyone look so childish or have long horse faces (old Kuro and Akaashi were hideous).

The new art shows you actually toned high school athletes and not noodle legs as volleyball players and fixed some of the faces and made some others like Kageyama as serious as he is in the manga.

I agree with OP.
Now, I don't really focus on other characters but my main complaint is my favourite character Hinata's hair used to look more detailed/fluffy now it looks stiff/spiky. Plus the characters look more "flat" looking?
This was what I posted before on To the Top! thread, Hinata looks cheaply drawn from afar ๐Ÿ˜•

I want to believe that it will be really good thanks to the very probable budget cut on last season training arc, thats all I want to think about

I don't know man, these are stuff you can probably catch in the older seasons as well as any other anime out there. The still shots and far away shots always look wonky and flat. But I get what you mean :)

I mean comparing to the previous seasons it is downgraded for me. The hype moments that made haikyuu ie the impact of the spike, receive and set isn't there for me in s4. I just wish they atleast give the match the justice it deserves

The art does not pose much of a problem for me, but the animation and storyboarding on the other hand is a different story. In previous seasons, the camera usually followed the ball when it was the main focus, like during spiking and receiving, but in s4, it mainly followed the position of the players and sometimes, or rather most of the time, we couldn't really see the players spike the ball, it would just be the sound and the ball would suddenly be on the other side of the team. Just hoping they could bring back those things in this part of Haikyuu

To be Honest, as a manga reader, this was the most important arc in the whole series, and they cut a lot of important thing that lead to a huge development, plus the animation feels more loyal to the manga itself, so i kinda disagree with you ^^'

It would be great if they got rid of the see through net! Not gonna lie it breaks the immersion of the action when you're trying to concentrate on the match and you see their faces ghost hovering in the middle of the net like that.. it would be a lot better to have the net over their faces

I don't know man...the hair was detailed in the previous seasons! I can't argue with that fact but to me this type of hair looks more cooler than the previous seasons's cause detailed hair have too many drawbacks.

And also hinata with black hair and blue eyes would have made him look so much cooler to me cause personally i don't like the orange and orange combination.

Tbh, i don't want the original animation to come back cause their menacing looks (when kageyama and hinata makes menacing faces) look so cheap. I want the original animation to come back with better style if you know what i mean.

And this is the best anime sport series i have watched cause it is a little realistic (unlike kuroko no basket) and compelling to watch. i guess the studio did a better job this time cause kuroko no basket was good but very unrealistic like a guy i saw who could shoot with 100% accuracy from any part of the court( i don't remember his face or his name).
Tokyo ghoul's 1st ,2nd ,3rd and 4th season were a big mistake of Pierrot!!!!!

I get you dude, I completely agree. I just wanted to say to me it doesn't make it unwatchable and I cannot wait for the next season! :D

I would highly suggest watching Hajime no Ippo if you like the realistic sports series. I can assure you that you will fall in love with it as much as Haikyuu maybe even more :)

1.Artstyle: I didn't really have a problem with the new artstyle and by now I've gotten quite used to it. I also loove the character designs of the Inarizaki players.

2.Animation: There was an opinion going around during summer that the studio was saving most of the budget for the second cour.. Adding the fact that they not only split the season into two cours but also got more time to finish due to the covid pandemic delay, I am very excited to see what they have in store for us.
But I still feel like it will come down to the quality of animators who will be working on this season. Along with talented people like Hideki Takahashi, Yasuyuki Kai, Sachiko Fukuda and Takashi Mukouda (who did a fantastic job in the first cour), I really, really hope that Takahiro Chiba and Shinji Suetomi come back this season. Suetomi had not worked in the first cour because of his health detorioration. Chiba was supposed to have stepped down from Haikyuu after three seasons, but I later found out that he was credited with a 10s scene in the OP of S4. So if these two come back, I would say that we wouldn't have to worry about the sakuga anymore.

Direction: This is the part I'm most worried about. I feel like the new director is quite inferior to the old director as far as quality of adaptation goes. I don't think an anime is supposed to be a complete 1:1 copy of the manga panels and in this regard the old director did a tremendous job of not only staying faithful to the source material but also adding to it in his own creative ways. His choice of camera angles and camera movement was so good that I felt that I was actually playing with the characters and experiencing their emotions irl. The new director also prefers a more free-style type of sakuga which means even though the scenes are more detailed and smooth, they lack the impact that was present in the previous seasons.

Score: No complaints at all. I am very confident that Yuki Hayashi will do an excellent job in the composing the background score, like he always has.

Overall, I am very very excited about this season. The Inarizaki match is probably my favourite match of the whole series and I am really looking forward to how they adapt it the anime!

Changing of directors and main animators are one of the reason why Season 4 dramatically change from it's former character design and art. This animation design was start since Haikyu OVA 3-5 where some voice actors and arts are introduced. I guess that the former animation was very good but when it comes to this new animation, it was faithfully stick to the manga art.

idk if you're referencing the most recent episode (S4 ep 15) when you say that the art has worsened, but that episode was outsourced to a company known as 4tune, most likely due to needing more time to work on more important moments later on in the season.

I'm halfway through the episode and had to stop and see what's going on. Honestly I didn't complain when OPM S2 came on andthought everyone was just exaggerating, but now I'm probably as sad as they were. Maybe it's because I like Haikyuu way more than I like OPM, and what made me the most into it was the art, mainly the character designs and those shades on their skin like from hair and such. When they first showed the new designs for S4 it wouldn't make sense in my mind and I'm still confused why they decided to do so even knowing the changes in the staff, because it was so good looking before. Anyways I don't like to be negative about other people's work because I know how much effort it must have taken, but this episode is looking like someone is making a fan animation of it (I say this because I saw one of Solo Leveling a while back). At least the backgrounds are as great as always. Haikyuu's backgrounds are my favorite from the top of my head, every time I pay attention to it I become impressed.

Haikyลซ overall has an amazing artstyle, although S4 is different and S4E15 was god awful. Even then it’s great
