I've moved on from kissanime since I watch most of my anime on hulu and prime video now but it's the end of an era. Not sure if they still had the countdown clock thing but I still remember back when KNB was at its peak popularity and every week everyone would be watching the clock and getting hyped for the next episode. Good times. |

I don't care about streaming anime but kissmanga was best site for reading online to me. I don't know sites where I could download manga and it's easier to read it online. Now I try to find some other site which is as good as kissmanga used to be. |

Well, not that I care about streaming but it will probably be back as a mirror or 2 to 3 other sites will take its place. In the meantime I'm feeling with anyone who was using it. I still remember what a PITA it was when the first nyaa kicked the bucket. Luckily there is already a fallback in case it happens again with the current one. |

But the file sizes are usually larger so I watch online instead. As for the streaming sites since there aren't proper legal options or sites people have no other choice but to use these streaming sites. Those aren't very good torrenting options since they only have the most recent and popular stuff. If you never watch anything outside of seasonals Horriblesubs should be okay, but for anything beyond that I would look into some of the private trackers like bakabt or animebytes if I were you. And choice or not, I hate the 'business model' of sites like kissanime so much that I would rather go out of my way and jump through some hoops to register at a private tracker than give them clicks. I support piracy wholeheartedly but only as a means of making accessability more democratic and I hate the idea of people making money off of if, off of stolen work. I'm an idealist with piracy and it should just be about availability, without profit, especially when the subbers who but the initial work in do so for free, without trying to profit for it. What right do lazy sites like kissanime who just steal the free work f others have to monetize it? It just makes me anygry that they do and everyone is fine with it. It's stuff like that which gives piracy a bad rep if you ask me. Not to mention that the greedy ads make the site barely usable and functionable in the first place. Good riddance to an god awful site. I've always hated their ads and horseshit compression and video encoding. They did have some older stuff that are mostly missing on other sites but they neither did anything by themselves nor did they credit the translators and stuff. |

Honestly I'm kinda blown, the community was so active in the comments sections on episodes which made the experience of using kissanime very enjoyable imo. Yeah the captcha in between episodes were annoying, sure some of the server's stream quality wasn't the greatest, but the betaserver usually was fast to buffer, I appreciated being able to force 1080p, and If you used ublock with the right settings you needn't worry about the ads. I really grew attached to the layout of the site, and while I'm glad there are other KA mirrors that emulate .ru around, the volume of content and discourse will be missed. Time to branch out I guess. |

On another note, I’m having trouble finding another site that has the extensive library, Blu-ray/uncensored version, fansub option, video quality option, and low pop up ads that kissanime had to offer. I’ve tried checking out all the popular alternative sites people suggest but nothing comes close and they always lack something that KA had. |

But that's where I read all of my manga ;-; Some manga are hard as hell to find yet the entirety was on Kissmanga. Like the entirety of the obscure manga "Kuro" is there, but I can't find it elsewhere, not even when I last searched for it on Nyaa. Mangadex sucks shit because the limited library and many manga I want to read aren't in full there. I believe they had J-Dramas and K-Dramas as well. And that's probably on TOP of KissCartoon and KissComics. Yeah, I do dislike Kissanime, because I don't like their shitty advertising and clickjacking system + the ads themselves being bottom of the barrel, captcha, awfully compressed videos and logos, and generally awful streaming. But everything under the "Kissanime" hub of sites has a bunch of shit that'll be harder to find from here on out. I've hunted the manga Kuro to no avail, and Kissmanga AFAIK was the only place that I know having it complete in English. This shit sucks. If you want, you can try MangaGo for manga. It has a huuuge selection of manga and webtoons (including Kuro) and if you make an account, you can read the pages all in one go (so no clicking ahead). A fair warning though, the site is mainly used by people who read BL/GL, so there's a huge selection of BL/GL on the front page too. Either way, if you want to read a lot of manga and read them in one go without clicking ahead then I'd suggest MangaGo. There is problem with some sites, they allow you just to read on one go. I prefer to have one page at a moment and click to see next. It's better than scrolling down for me. Mod edit: Removed links to copyrighted, non-fair use material. |

F I still doubt it's permanent tho. It's hard to believe cuz it's so sudden without any prior warning or signs. The site worked fine perfectly at 9:30am (in my time) but bam, 'closed forever' at 10:30am. I thought it was some kind of mistake. I know many workarounds but still sad because KA is my first go-to site that I used for about 6 years. Sure, porn ads and captchas are annoying but their database is super reliable, especially when it comes to OVAs, Specials and obscure shows. |

Overall I'd call that a win tbh :>. Idk why an illegal website taking sources from other illegal uploaders upsets you. That's easy. 1. They steal the credit from the people who actually went out of their way to provide the subs for us viewers for free. 2. They monetize that stolen work that was almost always intended to not be monetized. I don't have a problem with piracy/illegal file sharing in general, but I do have a problem with people making money off of it since that contradicts the spirit of piracy as I like to understand it - which is all about availability for everyone, no matter how rich or poor or where you live. Fansubbers upload stuff just to make it so other fans can also watch it, kissanime uploads stuff to make money off of it with tons of ads. I don't think it's that hard to understand why one is scummy and illegal while the other is just illegal. One is using piracy as a means of using their own time and effort making availability more democratic and the other one is using piracy to pocked money without putting in any work themselves. And that's not even mentioning the stolen valor. It's very frustrating to see how many people actually think kissanime does the fansubs themselves and give them props for it, instead of the actual fansubbers who are the backbone of the western (pirating) anime community. Especially if you know how much work it actually takes to properly fansub an episode, not to mention a whole series. The least these people deserve is some credit and kissanime is even taking that away. If all fansubbers stopped tomorrow, kissanime would not be of any use either, but kissanime being gone while the fansubbers are still around doesn't make any difference in the long run for which shows we can watch with subs and which we can't. That really tells the whole story. |

Pullman said: First, speaking of the situation with German language fansubs: many of those are from the early 2000 when that format had it's heydays. Most of the groups vanished, and while the material is still legal to download, the original sites and torrents are mostly dysfunctional today. Without curator sites taking care of keeping copies alive material is indeed lost, sometimes forever. The thing is that every obscure anime they have, they stole from the original fansubbers who intially uploaded them somewhere else. They aren't the source for anything The other point is that you massively underestimate the effort needed to keep a global player site up and running. Stream hosters come and go, hackers and DDoS happen, legal work needs to be done (even if that's just throwing away the DMCA notifications, it's still work). I understand your criticism of profit making, but let's face it: kissanime & Co are a form of organized crime. And you need to be organized well to keep a global player site with those amounts of data up and running in scaling quality. And organized crime needs to pay it's full time employees, it's like any business, just illegal. Let me add an observation about the BETA servers. I think that the backend was actually Google Video. So what they tried is to use that high availability, high quality hoster while still keeping control of access so they can add ads. They basically messed with Google, and lost. Given the scale of the site, there are few hosters which could be used, the amount of traffic must have been really massive (and expensive). |

Man... When I was told to watch naruto I looked for it on youtube to find a few shitty low quality videos. Then I learned about kissanime and I could see a whole new world at my fingertips. Endless adventures to be had, friends to be made and stories to be told. All those persistent ads, such as the ones popping up as soon as you click/touch the screen or the consecutive 6 ones that pop up once you start a video I took for granted. As much as they fucking pissed me off, in retrospect, they were a fond memory for me. Kissanime brought me into this world but now I have to watch as it leaves. Personally I only used KA once and despite having an overall poor outlook on that experience, I understand the convenience it provided people being a 'one stop shop'. That being said, things change, but it wasn't the first repository for other people's work and it won't be the last. I guess it's still a hit to those who only stream though until another streaming site fills those shoes. But the content isn't lost, so inevitably someone will fill them. |
