Since Sakurazawa Sumi's got a cast I'm guessing at least up to chapter 44, though I have absolutely no idea how they're going to finish up after that. Maybe, if they adapt a few more chapters, like up to 60. I'd reckon they'd need 24 episodes for that - if they try to squeeze the first 44 (or worse, the first 60) chapters into a 12 episode season then either the pacing is going to be heavily rushed or they're going to skip some stuff.

I want to remain hopeful that TMS can improve on what the manga heavily had issues on and that is evidently the characters themselves and relatively slow pacing of the manga. For those who want a comparison on what the manga is like, just read the Nisekoi manga. That being said there are some pieces of Kanojo Okarishimasu that reminiscent to Nisekoi:

Its a harem anime (ofc).

The MC Kazuya is basically Raku, but not only dense, but self loathing as well. He doesn’t have a backbone, and never tries to stand up on his own beliefs. He also is very childish for his age (20 yrs old mind you). It took almost 100 chapters to show any noticeable amount of character development from him.

Ruka is Mari Tachibana, but the more obtrusive version. Both share the personality as that one girl who aggressively heads of heels over the MC. What differentiates her from Tachibana is that Tachibana acts more in a seductive sense, where as Ruka is more blunt, aggressive and often vocal about her, being with her love interest. To the point where that the relationship between is one sided (MC doesn’t show any interest in her).

Chizuru is comparable to Chitoge but the more mature version. Sure, both are questionably annoying, but Chizuru shows a more logical side. She doesn’t want to be in a (real) relationship with the MC because of the circumstances with her job, but slowly starts to get acquainted with Kazuya. She in one hand could be seen as heartless but on the other as emotionally stable. Chitoge is your normal tsundere, solving problems with the MC usually via fisticuffs. (Jk).

That being said, none of these characters above show much character development at all. Sure we get to see their backstories, but the characters felt non-dynamic, 100 chapters went by and it seems like you have only read about 20 chapters worth of story, and the only one that had any sort of character development happening was Sumi. Being the archetypal dandere she is and considering the amount of limited exposure she had in the manga, she was the one that changed the most. (Not enough info on Mami to make a conclusion).

At this point you might see this as much of rant, and in some sense it is, but as I iterated before, I am hopeful that TMS will iron out the story of the rancid manga. People might not even bother watching the anime when they have read the manga already, and expect it to be as bad as the manga. But remember this is an adaptation, not supposed to be an animated carbon copy of the manga. For example, Rosario Vampire manga was questionable, but the anime did not follow the manga route, and the adaption turned to be quite decent (IMO). Lucky Star adaptation, although followed the manga much more the RS, The manga was bad, until a bit of Kyoto Animation magic made it one hell of a show to watch. All in all, I believe TMS is a studio that will do well in its adaptation efforts of the manga.

Thanks for listening to my TEDtalk!
