Why are their ears so massive?

Just the title is enough, I hope y'all know what I mean
I actually really like this series' style as long as their ears aren't shown pfft
They look good in the original manga and maybe even in stuff like touch but here it's just really weird looking
Please tell me I'm not the only one who's put off by that
