| Well, this kinda goes to the definition of "isekai", which is the main character(s) gets transported to another world or location that's not of their original world. Isekai is often used as a plot device/element in anime than a genre. The only time that it can be used as a genre is if the anime/show specifically showcases characters jumping between worlds. A good example is an western show called Stargate SG-1. In terms of recognition as a genre in Japanese Anime sites, I sure some websites recognize it as a genre and tagged it in their system. (Though, I haven't found any that does.) |

| I'd only want isekai as a genre if SAO is NOT included. People keep calling "VR games you can't log out from" as isekai rather than simulations. If you can destroy an entire world just by destroying a server in the real world, then it isn't a world, but a simulation. |
