Is Black Clover a bad anime in general or just a bad shounen?

I have heard about all the hate that this anime receives and as of 21 episodes I have yet to find a legit reason to not like it. In my opinion, a bad anime is a show who's flaws stick out so badly that they overshadow the good qualities,(if there are any) and make the show unenjoyable. I have heard the arguments about why Black Clover is bad but most of them seem invalid to me. One of the arguments I don't like is about how annoying Asta's voice is. While his voice is a little hard to listen to its also funny. (By the way I'm also watching Death March kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku, Satou has a slightly more annoying voice than Asta, its a little too high pitch). But then there is the argument about shounen cliches which make me ask this question. So, is Black Clover a bad anime in general or is it just bad for a shounen? I don't know much about shounen cliches so please clarify.

People aren't annoyed by his voice. It's because he screams every single second in each of the episodes. For me, I'm kinda annoyed but it doesn't make me dislike the show. What I dislike is it's multiple recaps per episode. They literally take 1/4 of the entire episode up.

Black clover isn't bad I actually love it The anime adaptation on the other hand has alot of problems but nothing that can't be fixed in the long run like the recent episode is the best yet everything looked great there was finally no lazy messed up character faces can't blame them Naruto looked like shit at first the gotta get used to drawing the characters first also no recap and no unnecessary filler and idk but asta's voice sounds deeper this episode. Most of the people That shit on black clover are the MHA fanboys because really how the fuck is a popular Shonen like this get 1/10 nothing can be that bad also since MHA and Black clover are rivals and jump is pushing black clover hard going as far as to saying the want it to be the next Naruto with the Long running anime and already has a game announced the manga has already past MHA in the jump weekly rankings for almost 2 months it doesn't help that MHA has gotta pretty stale lately after it's last arc that's the only thing I can say that would explain the Ratings.

Even if you remove the fact it's a shounen, this show is still not good.

Most of the cast are one note and uninteresting, the animation has numerous slip ups and much evidence of corner cutting, there's nothing particularly engaging or interesting about the world, the magic system has few limits or rules and everyone just seems to be able to do anything with it just in a different element, the humour is pretty average with nothing standing out. And on top of that, the story is just your average hero's journey without much of the earning part, with Asta getting new abilities on the fly.

This show will not last the test of time.

I think it's an unoriginal shounen, that's it. I can't classify it as bad shounen since it sticks to all or rather most of the shounen archetypes but that very fact makes it feel so generic.

However, as an anime, it's shit. It has shit music, shit animation quality and not to mention, the amount of fillers is way too much for a series this young. The one reason that black clover fans enjoy the manga for, is the fact that there is a sense of progression in each and every chapter, the chapters are very fast paced which leads to underseveloped characters but manages to keep people interested, all this sense of progression is lost in the anime because of the fillers.

Now I've been watching black clover since day 1 and, for me, it is really painful to watch for a few reasons...
The pacing is awfully awful. You have episodes where literally NOTHING remarkably interesting happens. There's a 4 minute recap at the start of EVERY episode. As if it wouldn't be bad enough that there are episodes in which nothing happens or the plot doesn't progress a single bit, they also add a recap that makes up 1/4 of the episode. Ridiculous. I'm not even excited for new Episodes since it might just be (for the most part) some talky-talk filler randomness.

I'm watching the dub since I couldn't stand the excessive screaming. Whoever is responsible for that should really rethink his/her strategy...

For the most part, it's a bad ANIME. I have no issues with the story or the characters, except:
The characters are all Tropes for the most part. I DO NOT know if this is the case in the manga as well, but... Some characters (esp. of the black bulls) get random screentime just to remind you that they are there because they are so irrelevant (the food Girl for example). I feel like every episode, another 1/4 is wasted on such characters (that food Girls has got SO much unnecessary screentime, in which you are only reminded of the trope, that it really bothers me). It doesn't contribute anything. It just annoys me to the point that when I see something like that, I immediately skip forward at least a minute. It really drags down the anime for me.
It's not like they have a reason for a slow pacing, they're not establishing details or backstories or anything meaningful really. They just throw something in there and recycle it 296382 times, just as they do with the recaps.

I might actually drop the anime and read the manga, it's getting THAT painful, but the story itself seems quite alright (classy shounen).

Really just a bad anime the manga what it does well is the layout how shit is framed so its really easy to read understand composition like directing but for manga.

the humour works for the most part in the manga, it's so fast-paced that literally sometimes too much but that's the manga advantage, its a fun easy read that gives kids a good message and really real one for results and the merits of hard work.

I think around 146chapters they have been around 5-7 arcs major arc i think around 146 chapters just faster than normal shounen.

This is kinda the perfect anime for this studio also because of how fast-paced it is, they can do seasonal anime for years and won't run out of material.

Oh no, the ones who bandwagon drop series when characters they like die even though it’s good for the development of the other characters in the show are definitely the ones with bad taste. And those are the Japanese. Why do you think Fairy Tail and SAO is way more popular over there, while we collectively shit on them constantly? No-one important dies, and they’re bad shows. And the fact that studio after studio can churn out rubbish every season but still turn a profit, while it gets 6/10s on MAL? Yeah, that’s the majority of the basic Japanese audience, who just love mediocrity. They have so many shitty light novels that sell, it’s painful to look at the statistics. We say they have shit taste because there’s physical evidence of it, and it’s influence is all over the industry.
Now, my taste isn’t great, but at least I know shit like Death March shouldn’t have even aired, yet in Japan, it does fine.

Correction.. Japan actually has waaaaay better taste in general
While something like SAO is popular there (mostly because of the light novel which most people on these other continents are clueless about) they also critic it very heavily in more productive ways which give the creators insight to improve.
Of course (like it is with everyone out here) they have some of the plain haters and stuff but blah blah.
If we're talking about popularity, you do get that those shounens like Naruto, FT blah blah are way more popular out here

Not to mention they recognise the great stuff while everyone out here is gushing over stuff like BC...
There there's so much interest with shows that get overlooked here like Rakugo, LoGH, Ghost in the shell.. They freaking had made in abyss, tsuki GA Kirei, princess principal at the top of their seasonal lists way before people out here gave them a chance..
The way they picked up on Kemono friends while most of us bland idiots were like "ugh.. The graphics..the graphics.."..like mahn
Their hype this season is more on Steins;gate while here people won't shut up about hero aca

If it's comparing taste then Japan has the rest of us beat hands down
(and lol the misconceptions about light novels...anyways)

If you think those shows aren't hyped over here, you clearly aren't very tuned in to the community. Also, it's us who rip into shounen trash like Black Clover a lot more, are you kidding me? And of course Made in Abyss wasn't instantly a hit over here, it was locked behind the dumb Amazon Double Paywall, remember? Ghost in the Shell is a terrible example too, of course it wasn't popular when anime was difficult to come by over here.

#3 on here for goodness sake. And it's an incerdibly Late Sequel, no wonder it doesn't have the same hype as one of the best shounen's third season.

I watch 17 episodes and its just weak if you like OG shounen stuff its much better things to watch. This show is like they took a little bit of every other popular shounen and threw it together not bothering to attempted to meld it so it flows. Also the animation was terrible, like god awful for it to be like a flagship type series.

I Personally cant see the draw unless it got drastically better from the point I stopped watching.

I really like it. I can't stand watching Naruto ,My Hero Academia and most of recent shounen, but this is easy to watch. Fast paced, not many fillers, the characters are interesting.

I don't see a problem with Asta screaming. He being loud is part of his personality. The manga is amazing too.

I see it both ways, naruto obviously got better, but you wanna y’all about flashbacks every episode? You have seen naruto right? Black clover has ups and downs obviously but it’s still early there’s a lot unexplained that we have to deal with for now, but that’s not really a bad thing.

I think my biggest problem episode was when he fought the zombie mage. It was like oh let’s fight oh let me protect this little girl with quite literally the worst deflection animation I’ve ever seen. And everyone knows Asta is there but they’re to busy dealing with these very unthreatening zombies.

It's the animation. The mass of people complaining about the studio not properly adapting have dropped or died off so you don't get as much of it compared to when the series aired, they've done their damage and left.

The animation on the other hand, is still god awful when it matters (the fight scenes) to the point you can't help but complain. If it was at least pleasing to watch visually, it would not be a surprise to see a lot more people be forgiving.

Story wise, it's a typical mission-based battle shounen.

I stopped watching around ep8 and binge watched the remaining episodes up to now (ep44) in some days.

I wouldn't say Black Clover is a bad anime/shonen. The problem with it is the huge contrast between the serious scenes (mainly plot/fight scenes) and the remaining "casual chat/interactions between the characters" part.

The plot/fight scenes are great and well constructed and a pleasure to watch ( not talking about animation here)
Even if there's nothing new, just basic shonen. But it's a solid one.

But the interactions scenes. OMG is that lame. I didn't read the manga so I can't say if it's the anime or the author's fault, but damn that's boring.
That part is Fairy Tail kind of lame. Characters have no personality and development between each others. They're only defined by the gimmick they've been assigned.
If the siscon dude appears on screen, he has to mention his sister.
If Noelle interacts with Asta, she has to be the tsundere that will secretely say to herself she don't love him
If Luck appears on screen, he has to mention fighting.

Sometimes the exageration on characters gimmicks is so insisted on that it's annoying to watch.
For example the episode before the undead attack on the capital, where you see interact for the first time the 2 Blue Rose members. Charlotte is always asking Sol something and to call her "Captain" instead of "Sis" and Sol answers "Ok Sis". How many time in the episode we got that ?
Such a running gag is ok if you space it a bit, but not like 10 times in an episode, come on...
and 70% of the cast is like that.
Same with Gauche wanting to kill Asta everytime his sister appears near him during the abducted children arc. Every single time Gauche went near Asta => "I'm going to kill you".
one or 2 times is ok, but when it's 10 times in the whole arc...
Add to that most of the nobles in the anime being assholes who will trashtalk the MC, and you get conversation scenes that are a pain to watch 90% of the time.

Since I caught up with the anime, I'll check the manga to know what happens next and I will see for myself if it's the anime fault or not, but at this point it feels like lame writing skills only. As if they don't know what to do with characters so everytime they appear, they use the gimmicks to fill in the blanks.

As an anime, well that's down to having Pierrot handle its adaptation (the story and animation etc) whilst they are the studio hat brought mainstream success to the naruto series I firmly believe in terms of the naruto adaptation, they hadn't done it justice... Pierrot should go bust, they really take the piss -or follow the footsteps of bones and redeem themselves.

In terms of shonen, it's a bad shonen... One thing is having a cliche shonen (many a time it is unavoidable) but this anime is the other thing; it rinses the the hell out of the cliches and then some.
The amount of screaming is beyond me... And although I can look beyond it's similarities to narutos character design, it is still worth noting how they are similar to one another e.g.
Orphan
Underdog (supposed lack of power)
Outcast ("unloved by mana" no magic)
Secret power lurking within (serious kurama vibes here)

Whilst I say this, I know that these aren't tropes exclusive to naruto, naruto is the freshest in our minds when addressing these similarities since it was the most recent to finish
