I've seen people say that this part of the story is the "downfall" of the manga and I just wanted to express my disagreement.

A lot of people got triggered and angry at Gasou that they probably did not notice a few stuff.

1. This is what Neko warned Masamune about. That they will reach the same place. What happened to Neko also happened to him. Masamune rejected Neko for Aki. Aki rejected Masamune for the old masamune (Gasou).

2. The idea of this arc is that he is facing off against his past self. Old vs New, Appearance vs Personality, Past love vs Present love. In the end (at princess confession) Aki choose old Masamune and rejected new Makabe.

3. The arc was suppose to show us how much Aki loves Masamune. Remember Masamune is the reason for her heartbreak but not only did she unconditionally forgave him (implied at the beginning of culture festival arc) but she completely drops her tsundere act towards fake Masamune.

4. Gasou appearing totally wrecked Yoshino's plans because he caused the princess confession that led Makabe to the truth. We can surmise that Yoshino never planned to tell Masamune about the truth of Pig's Foot. However, due to Gasou's sudden appearance she was unable to reveal the truth to Aki that Gasou is not the true Masamune because she is afraid that Gasou might know something about the "Pig's foot" incident (The same with Neko, at ch. 18 she got nervous that Neko might know about the Pig's foot incident). I can only guess Yoshino's plan might be to get them together and convince Makabe that Aki hates his former fat self leading him not to tell Aki about him being Masamune and have them conveniently move on from the past.

5. He successfully enacted his revenge on Aki at princess confession. I dare you to read that chapter again and tell me that Aki is not heartbroken. Even if it's not the way he wanted to happen he technically broke her heart at that time and got his revenge.

I understand why people hated this arc because of NTR, but I didn't get that NTR feeling because we all know that our boy Makabe will not stay quiet and let that happen ever. What I don't understand is why people are calling this the "downfall" because for me this is a very important part of the story and reading the Makabe vs Masamune(fake) is somewhat epic for me.

Well NTR is kind of my main trigger but, while infuriating to read, this chapter did not really feel that NTR-y.

We have to remember that Aki choose the old Masamune because she loved him (or at least spending time with him) in the past- not because she loves the fake one who only acts like being there in the past.

The infuriating part is, that Makabe being rejected is entirely unfair, since this fake showed up out of no-where.
On top of that fake-fatty is only there to use Aki, who acted out of loyality to her past.
Aki is not trying to cheat but accidentally kind of does.

The good thing is, that fake-fatty can not bring the "relationship" any further than to the status of "being kind of close". Not even kissing is possible.
Marriage however- and a pretty underhanded fake one at that- is a big word.
I totally hate arranged marriages, since i feel like it is an overused plot device at this point and people only get hurt in the process, unless it's a "yeah we will see how those two get along, if not they just won't marry, simple as that"-marriage.
What also drives me all over the edge is the smug attitude of fake-fatty and how he is insisting on rubbing it in that they are engaged.
I really hope there is some serious payback going to happen.

The author did set this up in a clever way, since there is no-one at fault here except the antagonist.
And no. Having a cute little sister who is ill does not excuse the shit that is happening.

I should also add, that everything fake-fatty does is manipulative lying. The character itself is based on poor ill intentions, which only hurt people.
I refuse to see the little sister as the factor, that is supposed to magically turn these into "good intentions". The character has gone above and beyond to show how manipulative someone can be, threatening Neko and spreading false information by handing out misunderstand-able photos.

Hi, I came from the anime. I want to ask if Masamune went to training for one month really did happen in manga? And did Neko got cured and no one made fuss about it really happen in manga? She just like get 'lol I got surgery and cured now!' for a minute in the anime.

I agree that Adagaki still loves the fake Masamune when he first appeared was really weird. Masamune was the reason of her trauma but why did she still lovey dovey around him? Unless the trauma was a fake and she just want to play around with boys, which is really cruel like Masamune said. I also question why she got convinced that the fake was the real one, did she not do fact check like he did with the boys she rejected?
