Duncan Lester
It seemed like this place hadn't been used in weeks. Most likely everyone was out at the Training Field, practicing their powers. In comparison to everyone else's, Duncan's abilities really did seem very boring and plain. He sighed, removing his dagger from his concealed sheath in the back of his pants. He twirled the blade around until he was holding it in a reverse grip.
"Papa," he said, as he used his other hand to remove his sunglasses from his pocket and put them on. "Attack me." He stretched his neck some, then assumed a fighting stance, his knees bent and arms up, the blade in his right hand. He began to hum as Papa got ready, and Mama moved around into position.
Papa suddenly raced forward, his hands in fists as he attempted to punch Duncan in the gut. Duncan side stepped and swung around as Papa passed him, slashing at his back. Papa had been expecting as much, and quickly contorted his body to avoid the slash and struck as Duncan was exposed.
Duncan felt the wind pushed out of his lungs as Papa's blow landed in his stomach. He had fallen for such a simple trick. Papa didn't let up, though, and he quickly grabbed his knife arm and tried to wrest the dagger from his grip. However, Duncan quickly sucked in a breath and elbowed Papa in the ear, and as his grip loosened Duncan took a chance to escape it and step back.
He quickly signed to Mama to move into an aerial position, and she immediately floated ten foot directly above Duncan, and kept her eyes on Papa. Duncan took a deep, calming breath quickly, and then his eyes began to glow behind his dark sunglasses.
Papa had already recovered, but was hesitant to attack again. So Duncan took action this time, and ran forward, switching his grip to a hammer grip as he tried to do a forward stab for Papa's ribs. However, before he attempted to do so, Mama saw that Papa was shifting his positioning some. The small details Duncan missed, Mama highlighted with her eyes. Duncan could almost guess exactly what Papa was planning.
As Duncan went through with his forward stab, Papa quickly jumped back and to the side as he tried to grab Duncan's wrists. Duncan, however, had known that was going to happen. He could see Papa tensing, preparing for the action. So Duncan switched hands. Papa had been going for his right hand, so Duncan switched to his left. Papa was on the left of him, so Duncan quickly did another reverse grip and plunged his dagger towards Papa's chest.
Suddenly, Duncan was standing where he had been before the fight bad started. Papa was in front of him, Mama to the side. Papa was smiling g at him.
"Ma boy, I'm too old, and you've practiced against me enough times to know me like a book. Ya need a new partner, ma boy." Mama, however, gave him a huge hug and congratulated him on his victory, but Duncan wasn't listening. He was humming the last bit of his song as he walked to the Library. |
