Please forgive me ahead of time for any cultural blunders. Anime is not something I am entirely familiar with but my son loves it and has for a while. My son is about to turn 11 and I am looking into new anime stuff for him for Christmas. He already knows absolutely everything about Dragonball Z and it's counterparts, also Pokemon (he can recite everyone's stats), he's also been through Yu-Gi-Oh!, Digimon, Slugterra, Naruto, Avatar the Last Airbender, and has started on Wakfu, Full Metal Alchemist, and Blue Exorcist. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions for me on gift ideas for Christmas?? Books or movies or anything with this genre?? I'm a little lost. He loves mythology and battles.

I could name a lot of stuff, but it'd be R-rated :) So instead - choose Gintama. It has action, comedy, battles, it parodies most of those animes you've mentioned, so to someone who was watched them - it will be extremely funny and it's an ok anime for a 11 year old.

Magi: the labyrinth of magic /magi:the kindgom of magic (season1 and 2)
Fairy tail
Nanatsu no taizai
Katekyo hitman reborn
Arslan senki -historical, but still interesting and involves some fantasy elements, he might even learn some things from this :D
Akame ga kill

Now the first 3 i mentioned involves some mild fanservice, but there is no nudity, just touching breasts etc. You could watch into them to see if you would allow your son to watch these.
Akame ga kill has some blood, and SPOILER:
, you might aswell watch into this too, to see if its not too extreme for your son.
Hope i could help :)

EDIT: I was hesitating to recommend some for a 11 year old, but then i saw that he saw naruto, and FMA, which also contains some blood, and violence and 11 is not THAT young so yeah..

I'm okay with the violence bc he is seriously the least violent child I have ever encountered even though he watches it. (an arguement to be made for those against violent films) The nudity I do not allow though. I will look into these y'all recommended. I truly appreciate it. He really likes history as well so that is a very good suggestion. Y'all are great. Thank you.

Not my forte but I started with Rurouni Kenshin. That's the 94 episode TV series.

I'd stay away from the Tsuiokuhen prequel due to adult-level gore. In the TV series there is no blood or gore (Kenshin has sworn not to kill anymore and uses a special sword with the sharp edge on the non-contact side). It's not necessary to watch the prequel to enjoy the TV series (it does explain his scars, and why he changed from an assassin to a good samaritan, though).

The only knock I'd give it now is the graphics are from '96 - '98. Has a decent English dub IMO. A bit of history (Meiji era Japan). No fanservice.

Opening Songs 1 and 2 shows off the art style and many of the characters:

I recommend Code Geass, if you don't mind some tragedy.

Probably not the best since it has mature content (ecchi, blood, etc) and could be difficoult to follow fo him.

When I was 12/13 years old I loved Mirai Shounen Conan. That has a good story and little to no violence. The only problem is that it's an old anime. There aren't huge battles but you should give it a look.

Also right now I can think about Sword Art Online. There is no blood since it's set in a videogame. There are some really good battles and action, mixed with a love story. If he plays videogames he would probably like it.

I recommend a DragonBall Z blanket or some other toys. A blanket would be great for the winter season as well. I did a quick check online, and the price varies around 30-50 USD.

If you have a Hulu or Netflix subscription, there are plenty of anime shows to choose from. Since he young, but likes action, here are a few shows that he should enjoy.

Sword Art Online - Cartoon violence, but should be fine for his age.

Black Butler - This has more violence and some blood, but it's just as violent as some of the shows you have listed up there.

The Devil is a part timer! - this one isn't all action, but it's mainly a comedy and about working.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood - This is not the exact same show you listed above, unless you did mean this one, this second version of the original Full Metal Alchemist is MUCH better than the first version.

There's a ton of anime on Hulu as well, but some of them do not are dubbed(english voice actors). Some of them may contain sexual content and language, so make sure you know what he's watching.

Ah, alright, thats really good then :)

Well for the nudity, they censor it usually, and sometimes you can see breasts -nipples not showed- (1-2min for every 5-6episodes ~) but yeah, its better if you look into it and decide.
Fairy tail is not that bad, since its a battle shounen (fighting anime made for young boys -like naruto and dragonball).

An example from nanatsu no taizai: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5mSnuu5XCU

Magi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf1diYm5z54 (its a compilation made from many eps.)

OP, did you mean Fullmetal Alchemist or Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood? The latter one is better, get him to watch that.

Also Magi would be great.

I'd second Rurouni Kenshin. It has some violence, but nothing overt or too graphic. It doesn't have any fanservice and, considering the others you've listed, it seems like something your son would enjoy.

Others you could also try:
Nurarihyon no Mago (action/fantasy/comedy... But I'd only recommend the first season. The second has some fanservice inappropriate for an 11 year old)
GetBackers (action/comedy... No questionable content beyond standard anime violence)
Kekkaishi (supernatural action/comedy)
Last Exile (action/steampunk... I only recommend this since he's enjoyed Fullmetal Alchemist)
Soul Eater (action/comedy/fantasy... the dialogue in the original had a lot of innuendos, but the English dub is pretty safe)

Nononono don't offer One Piece and especially Fairy Tail, it has some themes with partial nudity that are very suggestive.

Best bet as mentioned already,

Hunter x Hunter << This one is probably the best one out there, the main characters are kids themselves, easy to follow and has 148 episodes.

Full Metal alchemist << Kids (brothers) as protagonists, 60 episodes or so, so not bad.

Magi: The Labirinth of Magi <<< 50 episodes through both season, lots of inspiration from aladin/sinbad, a good adventure

I'd also go with Ghibli works like Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke if your son has not watched them. They're easy to find and have English dubbing if that's better for him. Another good choice is the movie Summer Wars.

I also recommend browsing the discussions here: http://forums.animesuki.com/tags.php?tag=children

It'd help a bbit if you could tell us which of the animes he's watched he liked the most.
