Totally read Smankh's post far too quickly and ended up posting the full length version rather than the short TV-size version that he had originally nominated. For those who still want the long version, it's located below. The short version is added above though the compilation contains the long version.

That was my doing. Is there a specific reason why you wanted the short version? If there is, let me know and I'll change it accordingly. :P

Well this
Smankh said:
Well basically, I'm not convinced with my own nomination but I can't continue my inner debate any longer.

Song Title : Tabi no Tochuu
Anime Title : Ookami to Koushinryou - Spice & Wolf
Composer/Artist : Kiyoura Natsumi
Link : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7RTRR525

Travelling : this song is about travelling but the real strength of the piece lies in the short version of the song. That's quite rare but this is one of the songs I like in opening length. It has to be that way. A growing crescendo, adding instruments by instruments. But the end ! The end, the song has to end like this. It's the major part of the song, opening the universe described by the song like a gate to an undiscovered world. The other interesting characteristic of this song is the duo. This journey starts with one voice and then someone join the adventure. Then the destination is finally reached and the voice just disappears like in a last echo.

Well, my description is crappy this week and I don't feel something "SUPER SPECIAL" with this song, even if I personnaly adore it. It's too connected to this week's theme but maybe it's too obvious ?

If someone wants to listen to the full version, I'll add it. Just ask.

Instead of only having 9 results, I don't get why we can't have 2 from the same show....

Well, the goal is a large diversity of tracks. I do want people to expand their listening horizons and to maximize the amount of diversity, it's best to keep it down to one track per show.

Either way, does 9 tracks for this week really cause that big of a snag?

Uh, I guess I'm voting.

Country Train - It's definitely got that train motif going. Going. Heh. I think what makes the song work is the clean piano delivery. But I wish it went somewhere!

Jomy to Blue - Sounds like a piece about someone having made a decision and now is going through with it. Being a BGM piece I can understand they decide to make the pre-chorus part of the song undistinguished, but it makes solo listening not as enjoyable.

Kaze Sagashi - It's a nice song about stuff going somewhere, but yet going nowhere. I like it at least.
+1 for being distinctive somehow

Beat of the Rising Sun - w

Fleeing the Hot Desert Team Dai-Gurren Can Continue - You can use this song two ways, both as an ending and as a beginning. And not too long!
+2 for a decent and versatile piece

Tabi no Tochou - I don't really care about the ending bit of the TV version. It's kind of a lame cut IMO.
+1 for being a catchy travel song that does well to instill mood

Ketsu -Tabidachi- - Reminds me of ... Valkyria Chronicles for some reason. Nice fanfare song I guess.
+1 for a 'lets go boyz waarrg' song.

Tameiki no Hashi - It's like Tabi no Tochou but less memorable yet more durable.
+1 for being pretty okay

Kiniro no Tsubasa - Not sure how much traveling this one does. Good for credit roll, nice piece &c.

Think my favorite pieces are a tie between Beat of the Rising Sun and the Gurren Lagann track.

I'm just saying if ten things were nominated, and there are ten spots, I don't see the problem in letting in the extra song. Especially if it may fit the criteria just as well. Plus the two songs sound nothing alike, and I don't even think they have the same composer.

But i digress. I'm not voting till the streams arrive :p

I can't seem to be able to find a stream for the Fafner track though, so if someone can magically locate it, just let me know.

Clannad ~After Story~ - Country Train - It's a nice song, but the heavy synth sections really drag it down.

Sketchbook ~full color'S~ - Kaze Sagashi - I'd almost say this song is more about "drifting" than it is "traveling". It's a delightful song (coincidentally from a delightful anime). It has that relaxed feeling that so perfectly fits the anime it's from. +3

Initial D - BEAT OF THE RISING SUN - What is this I don't even.

Spice & Wolf - Tabi no Tochuu TV Size - Kinda a bit indifferent to this song, and I'm not completely sure why. It fits the theme in this case, but it's never been a song I've particularly looked out for.

Soukyuu no Fafner - Ketsui-Tabitachi - This is one of those songs with a majestic space-opera feel. Probably wouldn't be out of place in a game either. +1

Allison & Lillia - Tameiki no Hashi - A bit like the Spice and Wolf OP, this isn't really a tune high on my agenda. This one has the advantage of having really good vocals, though. +1

Princess Arete - Kiniro no Tsubasa - Don't know much about the anime, but it's a sweet song that really fits the theme. +1

Country Train - decent song, like the shakers and rolling bass in the background, whole thing felt very shoegaze. Not sure about 'travel' though.

Jomy to Blue - Pretty good song, but I get no travel vibe from it at all.

Kaze Sagashi - Cute, fun song, still don't feel the travel.

Beat of the Rising Sun: What in the fuck? This sounds like a really horrible excuse for an 80s dance song lol. Yeah..... no.

Fleeing the Hot Desert - Now here, we have a journey! Love the percussion all through the song, and the violins sell the journey aspect home. +3

Tabi no Tochuu - I love this song to death, but there were better choices on the OST for travel. This song is just a bit too dramatic to represent travel, I think. I could see it as a one particular adventure, but not as a broader concept of traveling.

Ketsui-Tabidachi - I can see this as travel on an interstellar level. Pretty interesting. +3

Tameiki bo Hashi - Sounds a lot like the spicy wolf song, and for similar reasons, doesn't sound like traveling to me. And this one is also just too slow.

Kin-iro no Tsubasa - there is no travel in this song whatsoever. What the hell.

Clannad: maybe it's ok precisely because it doesn't go anywhere (map/destination takemotow wwwwww wwww)? still... but +1

Terra E: Meh

Sketchbook ~full color'S~: Meh

BEAT OF THE RISING SUN: w

TTGL: Nice. As omo said, could be - or rather - an arrival, or a departure. +3

spice and wolf: nice chorus but I'm not feeling any thematic relevance/creativity

Soukyuu no Fafner: I'd reverse digiboy's definition, this sounds more like "adventure" than the allison song, IMO.

Allison & Lillia: I enjoyed this arrangement. recorders? nice. +2

Princess Arete: not feeling the traveling.

Clannad ~After Story~ - Country Train (watched halfway) - I can imagine a train, but I could also see someone running with it afterwards. Maybe it's the synth though, cause I can't really get behind it though it's a decent piece.

Terra E - Jomy to Blue (have not watched) - Endless running. Alright song.

Sketchbook ~full color'S~ - Kaze Sagashi (completed) - One of two Kiyoura Natsumi songs on this list. If anything, I just want people to listen to some more of her songs, since her voice is pretty nice. +2

Initial D - BEAT OF THE RISING SUN (have not completed) - Too slow pace from what I'm used to from Initial D associated Eurobeat. Reminds me of a night drive, but not an eventful one. Not bad though. Would have gave it points if the song of choice was 'Night of Fire" though. :P

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan - Fleeing the Hot Desert, Team Dai-Gurren Can Continue (completed) - I enjoy how the percussion evokes progress while the strings evoke both possibilities and memories. It's a journey. +1

Spice & Wolf - Tabi no Tochuu TV Size (completed) - Prefer the full version to the TV version, as I think it's a journey that hasn't ended, which the former reflects. Plus the ending is too sudden. Maybe I should have nominated the full version if it was going to be nominated like that. But again, song #2 from Kiyoura Natsumi, and her voice works well with the mysterious wandering waltzing 3/4 signature full of possibilities. If it was the full version, I'd have given it a 3. As such, +1

Soukyuu no Fafner - Ketsui-Tabitachi (have not watched) - epic adventure. A journey doesn't have to be epic, but when it is epic, I liken it more to a quest or adventure. But that's just semantics and me being a dick. :P +1

Allison & Lillia - Tameiki no Hashi (watched halfway) - More easy-going than Tabi no Tochuu, prefer the arrangement and vocals in the latter, but this still is a nice song to listen to. Just not as much as Tabi no Tochuu. :P +1

Princess Arete - Kiniro no Tsubasa (haven't seen) - It feels like traveling after the main important events are over. Alright song.

(+1) Allison to Lillia: Simple and evokes a picture of distant lands and uindiscovered places, people and tradisitons. If traveling isn't about discovering ne things, what is?

Clannad: I THINK I CAN I THINK I CAN I THINK I CAN. Too choo-choo for me.

Initial D: Lol what is this? HOT-BLOODED 80'S MONTAGE.

Princess Arete: I don't see where this is going, if anywhere.

(+1) Sketchbook: Hmm. I can see it, but I can't describe it. But it's there.

Soukyuu no Fafner: Lolno.

(+3) Spice and Wolf: BIAS VOTE IS BIAS. Epitome of travel songs. Awesome musically and lyrically. Crushes opposition like dust.

(+1) TTGL: You could probably just have the drum track and it would still work as a traveling song. Also, definitely a departure of some sort.

Towards the Terra: Lolno.

Allison & Lillia: enjoyed this a lot. It sounded a lot like women singing as the men left for war in some epic fantasy. +1

Clannad: enjoyed the choos as well as the piano and the synth mix, but there was too much synth.

Initial D: WOO HO. GAR, not traveling

Sketchbook: don't know how to describe, but travelling lazily or without a worry? +1

Arete Hime: simlar to Sketchbook +1

Soukyuu no Fafner: uhh yeah

TTGL: I've always loved good drum use and this shows it off well. +1

Towards the Terra: what is this

Spice and Wolf: still one of my favorite OPs +2

Clannad ~After Story~ - It's a game track, so I can forgive the fact that it's meant to loop. Somehow, I'm really digging the rhythms here and it's the "hey, let's wake up and TRAVEL" vibes that I really like. +1

Terra E - Jomy to Blue - I like the ROCKIN' in this one. Now, whether it can stack up against some of the other tracks is another matter, but damn, it's surprised me by being pretty enjoyable.

Sketchbook ~full color'S~ - Kaze Sagashi - Really pleasant and gives me the impression that they're exploring a world of possibilities. +2

Initial D - BEAT OF THE RISING SUN - I laughed at how cheesy this one sounds. Can't get the silly lyrics out of my head. Good pick for the novelty factor that brought a smile to my face this week.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan - Fleeing the Hot Desert, Team Dai-Gurren Can Continue - Very enjoyable stuff. Has a nice steady rhythm that succeeds in conveying the titular moment, which is really good seeing that I haven't even watched TTGL (which makes me a bad person). +2

Spice & Wolf - Tabi no Tochuu TV Size - Always a classic. I'll give this one my last set of points even though it means that Natsumi Kiyoura dominates this week. +1

Soukyuu no Fafner - Ketsui-Tabitachi - Sounds more like armies advancing. I suppose one could view this as a shuttle about to blast off into space too. Anyhow, it has that air of grandiosity about it that I really do like.

Allison & Lillia - Tameiki no Hashi - Has a sort of yearning feel as though it were infusing you with a sense of wanderlust. The woodwind solo is where this piece really shines. I might have disliked this the very first time I've heard this waaaay back in the day, but it's grown on me.

Princess Arete - Kiniro no Tsubasa - TheBigN nabbed the essence of this piece as the journey home kind of music and despite the hate, I still find its calming aura really enjoyable. Maybe I should have saved this for another week. Oh well.

Clannad ~After Story~ - Country Train(Watched, and played the game) - Utter win, simply because of my massive Clannad bias. The part they played this track in the game was utterly momentous, and this track always gives me the "window seat, window open, wind in face" feel thereafter. To hell with the series' treatment of it. +1

Terra E - Jomy to Blue(Watched) - I remember this scene vaguely I guess. Definitely got the ''resolute character" feel here. This track is one of my favourites from the OST, but as a competitor in this theme, I'm hard pressed to give it points. A nice tidbit was that they were able to mix in the main electric guitar which is playing the main theme of the show, and to have a running theme music through separate tracks of an OST is always a plus for me.

Sketchbook ~full color'S~ - Kaze Sagashi(Not watched) - Iyashikei! Always an awesome addition to this theme. The title(Search for the Wind) takes care of being tied to the week's theme as well. The guitar bits stood out very well for me, and the chorus just reminds me of the big blue sky, rolling hills and a dirt track. Makes me want to watch the show as well. +2

Initial D - BEAT OF THE RISING SUN(Watched) - I'll probably be the only person giving it points, since Initial D was one of my first shows and holds great sentimental value. Thanks omo for nominating this, one track of Eurobeat exposure is always good, though not anymore. XD +1

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Fleeing the Hot Desert, Team Dai-Gurren Can
Continue
(Watched) - Totally digging the drums here, they give the "outback" feel to the song already, and with the strings giving the sentimental side representation it's a very complete track. Great for feeling the "into the unknown beyond". +1

Spice & Wolf - Tabi no Tochuu(Watched) - If not for the series, the title and lyrics would be the only thing tying it to this week's theme. But damn, what a wonderful song on its own. The second half starting from 2:45 completely absorbed me into the mood. A classic indeed. Also, I prefer the full version because of that and because TV size has BAD END. +1

Soukyuu no Fafner - Ketsui-Tabitachi(Watched and forgot) - Woah, the brass. Brings images of dramatic pointing, engines starting and relayed commands into my head. On the sci-fi side of things, I'd rate this higher than the Terra track just because of its ability to give me this vibe.

Allison & Lillia - Tameiki no Hashi(Not watched) - It gives me more of a slice-of-life in the countryside feeling more than travelling I think. A very evocative song to that effect, if I might add, so it's still good, just not as fitting.

Princess Arete - Kiniro no Tsubasa(Not watched) - Got the miles and miles of fields here. Yeah, well the Japanese have always emphasised on the journey rather than destination, but zero emphasis as in this song, doesn't work for me. Still a very pleasant track though.

Clannad ~After Story~ - Country Train : +2 Perfect song to travel with. While riding a train of course.

Terra E - Jomy to Blue : lame. Sounds emo.

Sketchbook ~full color'S~ - Kaze Sagashi : +2 I want a ARIAxSketchbook official crossover. Really really nice feeling.

Initial D - BEAT OF THE RISING SUN : "awesome" week.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Fleeing the Hot Desert, Team Dai-Gurren Can Continue : Like the "after the battle, we move on" feeling, like resuming a journey +1

Spice & Wolf - Tabi no Tochuu : my nomination in OP size = )

Soukyuu no Fafner - Ketsui-Tabitachi : what ? where is the journey ? We seriously need a "war/military" week.

Allison & Lillia - Tameiki no Hashi : +1 gotta love the "puropera".

Princess Arete - Kiniro no Tsubasa : nice. I want to travel btw.

Again, I will resume my normal activities soon ... I hope.

+2 Clannad - the synth is a bit much but I love the piano motif with the train in the background and TONS of echo.
+2 Gurren Lagann- Travel is all about drums and GL has that in spades.
+2 Spice and Wolf- The repeating guitar chords drive this one + vocals. I also like the drums at the bridge in the middle (even if it was supposed to be TV size)
