Yasujirō Ozu  Yasujirō Ozu was a Japanese film director and screenwriter. He began his career during the era of silent films. Ozu made fifty-three films: twenty-six in his first five years as a director, and all but three for the Shochiku studio. Ozu first made a number of short comedies, before turning to more serious themes in the 1930s. Born in Bunkyō, Tokyo, Miyazaki began his animation career in 1963, when he joined Toei Animation. From there, Miyazaki worked as an in-between artist for Gulliver's Travels Beyond the Moon, where he pitched ideas that eventually became the movie's ending. He continued to work in various roles in the animation industry until he directed his first feature film, Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro, released in 1979. After the success of his next film, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, he co-founded Studio Ghibli, where he continued to produce many feature films. | If you haven't seen Late Spring I would wholeheartedly suggest you watch it. An Autumn Afternoon is excellent, as is Tokyo Twilight, Early Summer and End of Summer. I'm not wild about Ozu's silents, but I do prefer the silent Floating Weeds to the color one. |

Only post war films of his I haven't seen are The Munekata Sisters, Flavor of Green Tea and Hen in the Wind, so I can't speak for those. Most people aren't too fond of them though. |
