it pushes you to find things that weren't there and weren't intended, really. hell, my high school curriculum tried to push a lot of literary phenomena (such as alliteration) as if it's something an author will intentionally include on purpose for no reason other than it being there. 'this paragraph, i shall use alliteration!' (note: this applies to literature, not poetry or speeches).

like, i know author intent isn't the end all and viewer interpretation is very important (you can't control how people see your content), but damn - there's a different between interpretation and 'the author did this intentionally to make that effect intentionally.' it puts words in peoples mouths.

Btw, I had an english teacher who told us that whenever we see a character with the initials 'J' and 'C' in literature i'd be a reference to Jesus Christ. lol.

One of my teacher said a student got suspended at his old school cause a dude came in dressed as Jesus on a cross (with two legit wooden planks) to school during Halloween. Apparently he had to turn sideways to go through doors.
