Not all girls are like this but yea....... I've seen posts like this, and you know it was a sarcastic comment when they actually talk behind the girl's back. It's disgusting behavior.

Obviously people can tell that is a huge lie, and I don't see what that girl gains by writing the comment. It could just be sarcasm, but wouldn't that mean that girl's are as sly and cunning as guys?

Discuss.

Agree, maybe, just maybe the poster really found the girl in question pretty? Hard to imagine, right? oO

I've heard that, it's actually nice not to be an bitch/asshole to someone on the internet.

That's maybe one of the reasons someone would not be a bitch/asshole to someone if they posted a picture.

Maybe.

My sister and her friends constantly say things like this back and forth. I'm inclined to disagree, but they seem to genuinely mean it.

Most likely to seem nice to that person or they expect a complimentary comment in return on their own pic.

Here's what I like to think though: It's said that most women like to compliment women uglier than themselves, so they can feel they're worthy of even more compliments. On the other hand, when they see a woman prettier than themselves, they feel the need to point out that woman's flaws and make her out to be uglier than she is. It's all so that they can be pretty in their eyes and in other people's eyes.

Dude what's wrong with people being nice?
Also maybe they genuinely think their friends look good? Typically when you really like someone you also find them more attractive than they may be to other people.

I really don't see why this bothers you. Why is it wrong to raise someone's self esteem? Are conventionally unattractive people not allowed to get compliments or feel pretty? I don't get it

Complimenting others is natural for a lot of young girls on social networking in my opinion. Some take it more seriously then others though. Attention feels nice, and pictures are the biggest way to attract attention on those websites.

The less cynical side of me wants to believe that the commenter is just attempting to build confidence in that person. Or perhaps really does believe that person is beautiful? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, after all. However, it most likely is to get a compliment in return.

Lol

Well how can you explain this other than that they seek attention. So there are those friends who comment on each others photos constantly but they hate each other guts in secret and there are those girls who comment on everyones photos that they think will comment back.
Its an "feel better about yourself comment exchange system" which works only if both are girls, if there is a guy commenting that he is a internet perv.

I've never done it but I am a girl and I sort of understand. Most girls are very insecure and other girls may understand that, and by doing that may make the other girl feel more self confident. Or they could be trying to be rude. I'm not too sure. :)

It seems unless people are good looking in the OP's subjective view of it, than that person should feel bad all their life :/

This, definitely.

I guess everyone sometimes feels compelled to say something for our friend since they're online. Like, indirectly reassuring her by softening the blow so she just gets 1 "like" or comment, instead of zero. Enough to get the hint that she should try something else, but not so much that she thinks she blew it and her friends don't support her anymore.

It's best if everyone just takes the compliment at face value, or if it focuses on a certain feature you honestly like that *is* pretty. Plus, giving and getting compliments just feels good, even if you're both aware that it "might" not be true. ^^

Sorry for the rant! :)

That's not limited to fb.
A lot of teenage girls hang out with less attractive girls to make themselves look more attractive.
They'd call their "friend" pretty and all sorts of things.
Of course that's not true for everyone but I met a couple of those examples.
