| Well, the title should be specific enough, but just to clarify: ✔ doesn't necessarily have to be a soldier or fighter ✔ does have to have an actual purpose for crossdressing - not just for the fun of it ✔ be a well written character with agency (please no tsunderes or one-word label characters) ✔ her crossdressing must be a significant part of the plot and/or characterisation, not something that happened in 1 episode ✔ prefer it to be historical/fantasy, but can be anything as long it meets the above criteria I'm aware that this request may be a little difficult to meet, as I have rarely come across such anime, so thanks in advance to anyone willing to recommend any. However, after watching Rose of Versailles my expectations for my next anime is somewhat unfairly high. All suggestions are much appreciated, but please check my list first! |

I'd also rec Otogi Zoushi and Shojo Kakumei Utena, although Utena is not historical, more magical realism/fantasy-bent if anything. |

| Sounds like your looking for Rose of Versailles. The main character is raised as a man and sees herself as one. She isn't "disguised" though, people are aware shes a woman, but often treat her like a man because of how she carries herself. She does end up accepting her "feminine" side as the series progresses however. |
