Hellu, new here.

I'm surprised how people can talk about style here... I always thought "style" was something that comes with the years and is something that in the earlier stages can be imitated, just for learning.
Speaking of which. I've been concerned about my style too, lately.
Its getting too realistic! Help me!! :P

Well, you can imitate to learn, but it's not too difficult to control your own style to make it look how you want, in my experience. And it's not like you can only have one style of drawing evar. :P

Also that drawing's pretty cool. Like the shading on the hair. :3

Spend a few hours on a drawing of Yuki from Vampire Knight. I don't draw often, though - it's actually very rare, lol.

Oh yeah - plus it's blurry. Taken with my phone. I don't own a camera T__T

Nice lines is hard to do, the thing that I can't do properly is anatomy, hair and clothe folds.

I have several mistakes made on the CG, I had nice critics from other people X3

Thanks :) I think I mau have done some more work on it after I took the photo - I see now that the eyes aren't too good, compared to each other, but as I said, I don't draw that much xD

In fact, the day I drew that one was the first day I ever sat down to actually (try and) draw anime...

That's really good if it's not referenced. Even if it is, great shading job.

Well, those are really hard things but all it needs is a lot of practice, practice and practice. Well I guess to get things like anatomy right, references are also good, yeah. I should go practise too since my anatomy fails hard. D:

I think I actually noticed some..but my ability is way worse so I usually choose not to tell too much of critics, just to friends who I know they won't kill me.. ^^''' XD

I don't know why. I always outline and put the base colors together but then never shade/finish the painting.

Rage is undoubtedly the person here most professional in the style that he does, this is the kind of stuff people get paid for on a professional level, kudos, shame I think that kind of drawing style sucks.

I give you, the black metal loli, noticeable by the distant, glazy nonchalant look and not the over the top 'trying to be cute' look, of course the scratched arms, plain and simple clothing, slouchy posture, chaotic, uncombed hair and suspiciously lacking in colourful halo.

Nope, I never give compliments nor do I slate. I state what I feel, I do not state things to make people feel better or worse.

It's important to recognise quality even if you don't like things. I hate that style he uses, in fact, I hate to look at his drawings but I can acknowledge that it is extremely well done in that style. I do not like R&B, but have to acknowledge that Alicia Keys is good in what she does, as is Shakira, though both forms of music I hate.

This is where people often go wrong... little kiddies who cannot hear he difference between random notes and a Bártok or Pendericky piece because they do not like dissonance in music. I can give as valid criticism on R&B, Euphoric trance, nu-metal, or common practice classical music as the enthusiasts even though I like none. This is important to experience art on a more concious level.

You're doing it wrong. Saying "the style sucks" accomplishes absolutely nothing, except make the other person feel bad, which I'm sure you are aware of, because it's an opinion, nothing else. You're supposed to use constructive criticism in art. I think your choice of words was a little off. People with an open mind can take constructive criticism, but input that's really meaningless is another story.

@ScrumYummy:

Oops, i meant inking of course :)
I wouldn't stand a chance against you since i can't color at all. And if you coloured that lineart... Damn... That would be a straight win..

Nope, I never give compliments nor do I slate. I state what I feel, I do not state things to make people feel better or worse.

That's what you think you're doing. But that's not what happens when someone gets criticised because of his style. Especially the way you did it, it's the worst thing someone can receive. You tell him he's professional but make him think his style sucks. A style is something... people do not work on like anatomy. If you criticise his anatomy he'll still think he can improve, but imagine someone says your style sucked, right into your face.
It's as if someone nullifies the way you draw. It's as if someone would say that all you have been liking so much about the way you draw sucked right from the beginning.
Styles can change. But most of the time, they don't.
Anyway. Your words were off. Although there is always someone who doesn't like your way of art.
And I completely agree with the quality thing. You should just keep in mind that words like "suck" don't belong into any sort of c-criticism.
