I'm following the light novel, and I just watched the first episode of the anime. I can safely say that the anime producers got Haru's height wrong (by about 30cm). He's at most, half a head shorter than Kuroyukihime, and only slightly shorter than Chiyu.

Here are a couple of images from the light novel, to better put his height into perspective. The 1st and last two images are form the anime.

Also, his pig avatar is much larger than is shown in the anime. In other words, the anime producers made him look shorter than he actually is in the light novel.

The tricky thing is, there aren't that many pictures that have Haru standing upright alongside his friends, but it is clear in the various images from the light novels that he is not THAT short, although he IS short and fat.

"Constructive" comments please.

Maybe they added to his width? Thus, in the end, they have the same area weight..

Except, adding to his width won't make him shorter.

Who the fuck cares? It's the same story isn't it?

Yes, it's the same story, but that's the problem. Tell me something, if you see a short fat kid in the street, do you pay him any mind? Now, what if it was a fat midget? The point is, if there was a midget at your school, he'd be picked on more because of his height, than his weight. But in the story, that doesn't happen. BECAUSE, he's NOT a midget, just a short, fat kid.

That aside, are you an idiot? I wasn't retorting to that dude's post. Yet, you go on as if I swore at him.

Hmm... This is something I knew about for quite some time. Originally, Haru was supposed to be taller than the girls, but just a bit shorter than Taku, but he's still just as wide. Why did they made Haru too short for his size is another story entirely.

Maybe if they got Haru's height right, he could have been more tolerable, if not acceptable (because, you know, 99% of anime is all about tall and lanky guys).

Haru doesn't have to be thin and lanky (b/c tall and lanky MC is too mainstream), but his height should be at least be in proportion to his size.

Since Brain Burst takes your emotional scars into account when creating your Duel Avatar, Haru gains an Avatar with a unique ability (flight in a game where everyone else can't fly) because his emotional scars are so unique that only he can have them.

If Haru was tall and lanky, his emotional scar won't be as unique as the one that created Silver Crow, because he won't have to bear the pain of being bullied due to his figure, but rather, he would be just like any other person with an emotional scar so common in anime (abandoned by parents, mistreated by relatives, being shunned in class, etc.). As a result, he would have gained a Duel Avatar with a powerful but boring ability.

The story would end much quicker since there would be a highly predictable, if any, character development involved and it would be all about defeating the Six Kings.

I have pointed this out many times in other threads. The manga also depicted taller Haru (same as the LN).
The worst is the poster for the second OVA, where Haru is shown to only be as tall as Taku's waist. :D

No, what I'm going on is you sound like you need to chill out and take that pole out of your ass.

It's a cartoon. The animators took some liberties with the character design. It doesn't effect the story. It's not a big deal.

While it does not affect the story, it does affect the way how the audience will receive Haru. Anyone who has watched fighting anime, 99% of which have thin and lanky MCs, will catch themselves off-guard when seeing Haru's anime design.

Haru could have been more acceptable if he was thin, but then the story won't make any sense. Why would a thin MC be bullied at all? Maybe because he's small? Pfft. No one with a right mind would make a small MC. Because he's different? Pfft again. It's too common.

Haru being fat raises the bar for drama and character development. If Haru were to be like Taku, he would be just like any other MC out there with a boring but powerful ability and the story would end too quickly because the opposition would be too easy to defeat.

So they could have at least retained his original size and he could have been at least tolerable. Not everyone likes a fat MC after all.

I really hate it when they call cliche on a fat MC and yet they expect the MC to follow the same standard cookie-cutter design that has been used for DECADES.
